From the article....Great read!!! The economy is different now, and wishing it were unchanged from 30 years ago won't reverse the clock. We have to respond to the incentives and disincentives that exist in today's world, and those do not favor conventional permanent employees except in sectors that are largely walled off from the market economy: government, healthcare, etc. But these moated sectors cannot remain isolated from the deflationary market economy forever, and what was considered safely walled off from risk and change will increasingly face the same market forces that have changed private-sector enterprise. If you want security and a steady income, it may be more rewarding to build it yourself via highly networked self-employment. |

I'm impossible to hire due to health and age. Govt stalling on my disability (waiting for me to die I think), and I won't take welfare, foodstamps or the intrusions it includes. I had no choice but to start my own business, and I had to be creative due to health situations that sometimes put me down for a spell. I won't get rich, probably poorer, no...definately poorer..., than most on welfare, but I still have my principles and pride intact, and somehow manage to make ends meet month to month. |

Rapidly becoming third worldly as we are, we may see a time soon, where the legal age one can work will be between 18 and 40 years old. With little or no tax payer assistance, many my find themseves fighting over territory to sell or offer services on streets and sidewalks.
