"Arctic Sea Ice Gone in Summer Within Five Years?" shouted the National Geographic headline just five years ago.

"An already relentless melting of the Arctic greatly accelerated this summer - a sign that some scientists worry could mean global warming has passed an ominous tipping point," wrote Seth Borenstein on December 12, 2007.

"One scientist even speculated that summer sea ice could be gone in five years," warned Borenstein."At this rate," said NASA climate scientist Jay Zwally, "the Arctic Ocean could be nearly ice-free at the end of summer by 2012, much faster than previous predictions."

"The Arctic is often cited as the canary in the coal mine for climate warming," said Zwally. "Now as a sign of climate warming, the canary has died. It is time to start getting out of the coal mines."

It will be interesting so see how Mr Borenstein spins the latest news out of the Arctic, that "the heaviest polar ice in more than a decade could postpone the start of offshore oil drilling in the Arctic Ocean until the beginning of August."

"The heaviest polar ice in more than a decade." So much for Mr Zwally's ice-free Arctic summer. I hope his canary didn't freeze to death.

there not really wrong per say. Its just that we've taken steps to prevent that from happening. The world started going green during the time people were worrying about global warming. Id say thank you to all the experts that made us paranoid enough to care more for our earth and prevent catastrophes from happening.

that could be true, and probably is, but i think it is just political posturing based on money. they like to grab recent graduates and pay them to promote their agenda, saying things like Dr. jones has a phd in climate weather patterns, while that is true, they don't have any real experience in their field. and also, 5 years will not make that big of a difference, even if every country in the world stopped burning coal.

It really gnaws at me when people think that our actions could prevent something as large scale as that from happening. Global warming has always been a joke to scientist who were not paid to say otherwise. The earth has cycles, it always has and for we as humans to be self-important as to think recycling a few bottles and re-planting a few trees is way off.

Fear mongers and sociopaths created the crisis in the first place so they could suck more life out of everyone and justify genocide, also known as population control. The reality of global warming is that at least a little is good for humans, plants and life expectancy.

yep,and that paranoia made OwlGore Billions, while he maintains a Carbon-Footprint the size of #18 Boots, and buys Oceanfront Property in CALI,that will be under water in 15 years according to those "Experts" he is always quoting!
So,what those Scoundrels are NOT telling us?

now, interestingly,it is starting to sink in,that the Sun's Cycles have a lot more to do with Warming Cycles than Human Activity ever will.
