DALLAS — Dominique Trevun Thornton, wanted by Dallas police in connection with a string of at least 14 holdups this month, is in custody.

He was stopped late Saturday night by Grand Prairie police for speeding on Interstate 20.

Thornton was taken to Dallas police headquarters for questioning and was moved to the county jail for processing early Sunday morning.

Police announced they had issued an arrest warrant for Thornton earlier on Saturday. He has a lengthy criminal
history including charges for burglary, trespassing and evading arrest, but there were no robberies on his rap sheet.

Thornton is one of two men police wanted to question about a series of holdups in the city's Uptown district and along the Katy Trail since May 4.

Victims described two men who took part in the crimes along streets and the public trail. In most cases, cell phones and cash was taken.

No one has been seriously hurt in the string of assaults that took place at all times of the day and night, but several witnesses said the men were armed.

Police have added extra patrols and undercover officers in the areas targeted in the crime spree. A $5,000 reward was posted for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
