I want to talk about how some of these musicians of this genre create beauty out of something so horrid as death. To me it takes a real talent to take pure black hatred and turn it into something so beautiful it could make a person cry tears of joy.

Another aspect I like is the different kinds, like the raw powerful aggressive rhythmic metal, and the classically influenced variants, and such.

I suspect death metal musicians everywhere would want to kick your a$$ if you told them their music made you cry tears of joy. Talk about mixed messages.

I find nothing "beautiful" about most extreme music, save a few select cases. I just enjoy it's spirit and energy and pay little attention to most of its topics or politics.

Who the **** are you and who give you the right to suspect that? Its about passion.......... and hatred of various kinds. I lived with death metal musicians and listened to them describe their lyrics in person. And I watched their interviews. So get the hell out of here if your going to be a picky *** faggot and bash real music. I

This post above is what a verse in a Death Metal song would be like folks.

I actually drummed in a Death Metal band in the early 90's opened up for the Death Metal awards at the Ritz theater in Tampa.Odd thing though i ended up being a club DJ later on at the same place but it was named Masquerades.

I don't read too much into the lyrics (for this particular genre anyway). As long as it has a good beat & melody & can move me in some emotional way.

I do enjoy how some songs (lyrics) tell a story & some of the hard core, brutal lyrics can be enjoyable. Art is subjective. Whatever it takes to get that pain or "joy" out.

RKISIT - I just moved from Tampa (birthplace of "Death Metal"). I know the club you're referring to. Ybor City. A lot of Death Metal bands also play "The State Theater" in St. Pete.

I don't suspect it, I know it's true. I live in the metal community, go to shows and talk to many of the artists, and virtually everyone I show your post to would spend the whole day laughing at your preposterous statements.

Yeah singing about gargling hooker intestines is soooo romantic and beautiful and surly brings a tear to everyone's eye. whoa

By the way, you make a great case for why people think people who listen to metal are screwed up, so congrats on meeting those expectations and possibly even lowering them. No wonder no one takes the music seriously when half its fans act and talk like this.

I totally agree. Depending on the song, I just don't pay attention to the lyrics, as many a death metal artist has told me, they don't take the lyrics seriously (usually) so neither should I. It is the actual music and rhythm that attracts me. It is just like a really good horror movie to me overall. It is all subjective in the end and I just take it at face value, enjoy the parts I like, laugh at those I don't and move on.

Dude. Why would you show hatred towards someone that shares a common interest? Is that what the Death Metal community is all about? I must have missed the meeting on that one.

No, that is what the death metal community is all about. Most people in it are actually really awesome, and everyone I know are some of the nicest people you could ever meet.

My son is in his final year at High School and his strength lies in music. He leans toward Technical Death Metal which is where i have learnt to appreciate it. Although i must say...that i do love listening to him messing about playing it on one of the acoustics rather than any of his electrics

Haha St.Pete there was a place called the ACL Club right down the street from the SPT on Central Ave. I seen Manson there when they were called the Spooky Kids. There was only like 25 people in the whole place.
I don't know if you remember a place called the Sunset Club on Fletcher Ave. it's east of the Brass Mug and Wooden Nickel.I seen a few Bands get there start there also, like Savatage who use to be Avatar thats was their name when i seen them at the club and i also saw GWAR there yep they had on their costumes too.D.R.I and C.O.C. i seen them there also.Besides a few Maiden concerts i thought were great,Skinny Puppy put on a show at Jannis Landing that was WOWWY ZOWWY freaking gore galore it was just GRRRRRRRRRREAT.
