Rep. Wasserman Schultz says she 'earned Cadillac' healthcare coverage

When asked if average Americans should receive the same quality health insurance as that of their elected officials, Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz told a group of South Florida healthcare workers that she “earned” her benefits, implying that her constituents had not.

“Yes, she really said that,” related Dr. Norman Palgon, a Hallandale Beach-based internist who was in attendance at a forum the Congresswoman conducted last year to garner support for ObamaCare. The good doctor was none-too-pleased with what he clearly felt was the congresswoman’s imperious attitude.

Wasserman Schultz, 45, who also is Chair of the Democratic National Committee, is a career politician who has never worked a day in the private sector. She has become a ubiquitous congressional proponent for ObamaCare, appearing on network television news shows extolling the President’s healthcare plan, in addition to serving as chief cheerleader for Obama’s re-election.
When asked if Wasserman Schultz felt she was more deserving of quality healthcare coverage than her constituents, the Congresswoman’s Press Secretary, Jonathan Breeto, vigorously denied such was the case.

“… the Congresswoman voted for [ObamaCare] … the law gives Americans the same choices for coverage that Members of Congress have,” he said.

“Balderdash!” said veteran insurance broker, James Trombino, of Pompano Beach-based Trombino Financial Group, in response to Breeto’s contention that every American has access to the so-called ‘Cadillac’ healthcare insurance plans enjoyed by members of Congress.

“There isn’t coverage out there that the Average Joe can buy that comes close to the plans enjoyed by members of Congress,” he said. “These plans are offered through the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, so unless you’re a lawmaker or federal employee, forget it. Even if you could afford it, which most Americans can’t, you simply cannot get it.”

Asked if Wasserman Schultz could provide specific examples of comparable coverage for average Americans under ObamaCare, Breeto had no comment.

Wasserman Schultz is no stranger to being called out on the facts. During an appearance on CBS’s Face the Nation, she said, "The Republicans have a plan to end Medicare as we know it. [They’re] going to throw you to the wolves and allow insurance companies to deny you coverage and drop you for pre-existing conditions.” Four non-partisan fact-checkers were quick to call her claim false in no uncertain terms. “DNC Chair Throws Truth to ‘Wolves’,” trumpeted FactCheck.org. “We rate her statement false,” asserted PolitiFact.com. “Wasserman Schultz’s bogus claim,” proffered The Washington Post. “Democrats distort GOP Medicare plan,” averred The Associated Press.

According to many political observers from both sides of the aisle, the Congresswoman’s penchant for media coverage and proclivity for putting her foot in her mouth have raised concerns with some of the party faithful.

“She’s making some party operatives a little nervous,” said one high-ranking Democrat on the condition of anonymity. “This is an election year and now is not the time for the head of the DNC to earn a reputation as a loose cannon.”

In 2011, Wasserman Schultz again stepped into political doo-doo for her comments on Roland Martin’s show, "Washington Watch," on which she said Republicans wanted to “literally drag us all the way back to Jim Crow laws,” a reference to antiquated laws designed to impede the voting rights of African-Americans. After once again being called out by the media and colleagues for her inappropriate comments, Wasserman Schultz said “Jim Crow was the wrong analogy to use.”

The Congresswoman, who faces a reelection battle this November, once again finds herself in a maelstrom of controversy concerning her remark that she “earned” her healthcare benefits. With congressional job approval hovering at a paltry 12 percent, some of Wasserman Schultz’s constituents are asking if she “earned” her annual salary of close to $200,000, along with perks including lucrative retirement benefits, use of luxury government jets, and other congressional accoutrements.

“Politics is the only career this woman has ever had. Her callous comments indicate that she feels her elected position is an entitlement program,” said Jose Rodriquez, an out-of-work, uninsured South Floridian. “Reality check, Debbie. There are 43 million hard working Americans without healthcare insurance who deserve the same coverage you have – for which they’re paying.”

I'd really like to know how any politician thinks they EARNED anything?
How do you earn something when they vote for it for themselves. Same thing with their pay!!
