Or
Sacrifice needs love? In my opinion it is usual to love someone without sacrificing anything, but it is unusual to sacrifice for someone without loving him/her. |

Sacrifice
“Sacrifice” is the surrender of a greater value for the sake of a lesser one or of a nonvalue. Thus, altruism gauges a man’s virtue by the degree to which he surrenders, renounces or betrays his values (since help to a stranger or an enemy is regarded as more virtuous, less “selfish,” than help to those one loves). The rational principle of conduct is the exact opposite: always act in accordance with the hierarchy of your values, and never sacrifice a greater value to a lesser one. This applies to all choices, including one’s actions toward other men. It requires that one possess a defined hierarchy of rational values (values chosen and validated by a rational standard). Without such a hierarchy, neither rational conduct nor considered value judgments nor moral choices are possible. It stands to reason that where there’s sacrifice, there’s someone collecting sacrificial offerings. Where there’s service, there’s someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice, speaks of slaves and masters. And intends to be the master. http://aynrandlexicon.com/lexicon/sacrifice.html |

My definition of LOVE is placing someone else's needs above mine.
I can only do that when I am strong within myself. Does that count as a "sacrifice?" No I am sharing my strength. And it is given freely by my own choice. |

The man who speaks to you of sacrifice, speaks of slaves and masters. And intends to be the master. This is true. Those who expects others sacrifice for them self are not worthy of being called human. |

This is a tough one.
When I love...I don't think of things as sacrifices....I do what I do because I love and love is worth it. I don't even consider giving up things or doing things as sacrifices...I just do what my heart tells me is the right thing to do. |

My definition of love is a good cop of coffee, a good book or the Daily Telegraph, some neat background music, and a nice daydream about IBM at 238.40.

OMG...unreal babes...u r so expert in defining as per your convenience. You will change YOUR old car by new one & definitely claim it as a SACRIFICE.... But indeed! We sacrifice our old selves to gain our new selves. We grow, we learn, we change. Sacrifice my old car for the new one...hill yes, and it was well worth it man. The old way got me nowhere, and the new one takes me where I want to go. |

My definition of LOVE is placing someone else's needs above mine. There is a story in my mother tongue titled as 'MOTHER'S HEART'. He was her only son. He was loving her spouse very much. One day his spouse asked him "I wish to drink blood of your mother's heart" That beloved son placed his beloved spouse's NEED above all morality, affection etc etc. & killed his mother, removed her heart from her dead body & carried to his beloved wife. He fell down in street due to stones & screamed as got wound. Mother's heart exclaimed..."Oh my dear son,are you alright....!" |

I believe love does require sacrifice. But then, I don't see sacrifice as the negative thing that most people do.
Not to turn this into a religion thread but the greates act of love known to man involved the ultimate sacrifice. |

Awww...ruth,you are always perfect!! Well, not always. Most of the time though. Still,it is good. anyway see what krupa is saying When I love...I don't think of things as sacrifices....I do what I do because I love and love is worth it. I don't even consider giving up things or doing things as sacrifices...I just do what my heart tells me is the right thing to do. In my opinion,it is also a high level of thinking. Now if you see, both statements ( Your & his ) are great & adorable ,but contradict each other. Krupa's statement is denying the existence of sacrifice somehow & you are terming sacrifice as greatest act. |
