Is "love" a scary word or do you think its simple to define? Or, do you think its just a word that without its meaning(s) would be empty and hollow?

I think it's one of those words like "good," that just has too many meanings and nuances to be of much use in anything but the vaguest of situations.

Do you think its just the writer in us that analyzes it too much Lex? lol

Personally I find it just a word that people make a HUGE deal of. Words aren't anything worth giving attention to without their meanings. I think people have thrown the word around like a hackey-sac and that ruins a lot of its meaning. I dunno...

it is just a word, but in the romantic sense it is tied to
emotion, which, when it's right, is hard to define. the only
time i find it uncomfortable (scary) is when it is said (in a dating
situation) and i can't reciprocate, that is usually,
sometimes,,,,the end of things.

There is that. But "I love pizza" and "I love Teresa" have two radically different meanings. Part of me is appalled by the idea that the same word can be used so fluidly in both contexts.

Totally its always the meaning we give it. I've know people who actually say, and I think they mean it: "I love ya" to their bf/gfs. I cringe when I hear that. Because its all in how they say it that matters. I gotta say, since being burned recently I favor loving food a whole lot more.

i've gone over this before.
people think i'm a dumbass for expecting a word to actually mean something.
SUE ME.
i detest when people throw the word 'love' around like they're playing a game of hot potato with it.
i mean if you say you love that one lady who gave you that one sweater for christmas at work,
what happens when you really fall in love?
surely you don't love them both the same.
o.O
if you do,
um,
my condolences.

Maybe you just really don't love pizza dude. I would actually marry a really good pizza. It would have to be a Don and Sues large with everything. It would be kinda like my last marriage. It was hot at first but ended up messy and left me with gas......smokin

For me, it's largely an issue of clarity. If someone says "I'm gonna go kick that ocelot in the kidneys," I have a fairly good idea of what their intentions are.

If someone says "I love ya" -- not that anyone does anymore, but assuming this was back in the days when they did -- I don't know whether that means "I need your help" or "I'm going to need your help tomorrow" or "Please get me out of whatever mess I'm in today." But it certainly doesn't mean "I love ya" in any of the standard formats I would normally have attributed to it.

I feel it's overrated. I LOVE my family, I LOVE my friends, I LOVE animals, etc. For me, the word has no meaning until i see that it's meant genuinely.

Perfectly said.
