The operation takes to 12 the number of arrests in a probe into allegations journalists paid police in return for information, known as Operation Elveden, one of three criminal investigations into the news-gathering practices of the News of the World. Last week, News International settled a string of legal claims after it admitted that people working for the tabloid had hacked in to the private phones of celebrities and others to generate stories. The phone hacking scandal drew attention to the level of political influence held by editors and executives at News International, and other newspapers in Britain. Isn't it funny that Rupert Murdoch has been compared to the villain of a James Bond movie?
You know the one....Elliot Carver played by Jonathan Pryce. And that was long before the phone hacking scandal came about. Interestingly enough, Carver was based on another (now deceased) media mogul who just happened to also be a politician....Robert Maxwell. Maxwell, however, never had the t.v. empire that Murdoch has created....an element crucial to the Carver's role as Bond's nemesis in Tomorrow Never Dies. Perhaps there is more to the Murdoch-Maxwell-Carver comparison than meets the eye... It's interesting to note certain parts of Carver's background against both Maxwell and Murdoch. For instance, Maxwell was a self-made man, born to poverty in Czechoslovakia. However, both Carver and Murdoch inherited their businesses from family. Both Murdoch and Carver wanted to build a global satellite news network that could rival CNN's influence....and then did so. As noted, Maxwell never had such t.v. influence, mainly because his own media ambitions thrust him deep into debt. And then there is the physical image of Carver in the movie...  ...as compared to Murdoch...  ...and Maxwell.  The screenwriter may have used Maxwell as his inspiration, but it certainly appears that the production team re-shaped Elliot Carver around Rupert Murdoch instead. In any case, all three are bad news - pardon the pun. |

Most of the Faux news viewers I come across in person and online just recite what they've heard on the toob as if it were fact.  I'll hand this to Rupert-he's created probably the most effective propaganda/misinformation/disinformation machine in modern history. Almost everything the viewers of that network believe is partly to totally false. He's outdone the the great propagandists of Europe like Goebbels and Hitler.

He had a little help, they wanted to believe the garbage, it went along with their demented political, social, environmental and religious views.
