Section everything off into small areas. Start with one area at a time. It's easier to do a small space at a time than trying to wrap your mind around a whole house full of stuff.

Build a bonfire if you can and just start hauling stuff out to burn.

This is a good idea! When I had a big house I would make a list of everything that needed to be done in each room (for spring cleaning). I would do at least one thing on the list everyday, usually more.. You would be surprised at how fast it gets done.. I have a hard time getting rid of certain things....lol

A great idea and has always helped me out. I tend to always make lists and when it comes to the home, I found it helped me to figure out when need to get done room by room. And nothing is as satisfying as crossing something off your list.

Clothes
I like to have clothing swaps to get rid of clothes I'm not wearing. I tend to travel a lot so I don't need to be holding on to clothes that I think I might wear. I find it gives me great pleasure to give it to a friend who might enjoy it more.

Clothes that have been sitting in the mend pile I consider just getting rid of them. If I haven't mended it for over 6 mths then I toss it. I do tend to mend things twice a year (birthday and new year's superstitions).

Household items
Again, due to moving from country to country, I try not to buy appliances I might just use every once in awhile. I try to buy cleaning cloths that can be rewashed and items I know that I can give away before I move. Keeping these things in mind help me to keep my items to a bare minimum.

I aways have a small notebook and pen with me. This helps me to write notes or numbers or any information I might need for later. I try to go through the book every few days and cross out items I have dealt with.

I have recently started using a program called Astrid Tasks that you allows you to make task lists and share them with friends via FaceBook. You can ask your friends to help you to complete the tasks and also set up reminders and alarms. you can find the program as an add on for Google Chrome and I believe they have an application for smart phones.

Hopes that gives you some ideas. :)
