January 1, 2012. Cedar Rapids. Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum has spent most of the 2011 primary season at the bottom of the list of GOP hopefuls. Hovering at an embarrassing 2 to 5 percent in national polls since this past summer, Rick Santorum suddenly finds himself in second place only two days before the all-important first caucus in the nation. While various polls and poll numbers change by the hour, it appears the Iowa caucus has become a 3-person race.

The most recent Des Moines Register poll released today shows just how rapidly the candidates’ support levels can change. Four days ago, Texas Congressman Ron Paul was comfortably in second place behind former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. But if the poll results for just the last two days are examined, the numbers show Rick Santorum passing Paul and jumping into second place behind Romney. Here are this weekend’s poll results from the Des Moines Register:

All 4 days of polling from Dec. 27-30.

•Mitt Romney – 24 percent
•Ron Paul – 22
•Rick Santorum – 15
•Newt Gingrich – 12
•Rick Perry – 11
•Michele Bachmann – 7
Using only the final 2 days of polling from Dec. 29-30 (from CNN).

•Mitt Romney – 24 percent
•Rick Santorum – 21
•Ron Paul – 18
•Newt Gingrich – 12
•Rick Perry – 11
•Michele Bachmann – 7
As one can see, in the past 2 days, a large portion of Texas Congressman Ron Paul’s supporters have drifted to the camp of former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum. It would appear that the influx of Iowa voters who propelled the Texas Congressman into the lead in Iowa after leaving the Gingrich and Cain camps have found a new choice. Examining the Des Moines Register’s poll data in detail may explain why.

According to the same poll just released by the Des Moines Register, here is the percentage of Iowa voters who consider the following candidates their least favorite.

•Newt Gingrich – 23 percent
•Ron Paul – 21
•Michele Bachmann – 14
•Mitt Romney – 12
•Rick Perry – 6
•Rick Santorum – 3
With 21 percent of Iowa caucus goers calling Ron Paul their least favorite candidate, it’s going to be difficult for Rep. Paul to surge any higher than he already has. Using the opposite dynamic, former Senator Rick Santorum, appearing to be the most likable candidate, has plenty of room to continue to surge.

Newter is so done laugh

Even he has given up hope on Iowa and NH (according to his interviews) and is gonna try to carry on till SC where the attack ads haven't hit yet.

Looks like VA is gonna give the cry babies Newter and Prick a chance tho, with a special session to change the ballot laws (or try to). May not even be an issue by then.

Yep, dream on Newter!

InSanatorum has had no "exposure" before now... his record in the Senate is like Newters, only he was facing corruption charges, not just ethics violations. Stand by for that to come out clearer IF he makes a showing in IA. Lots of dirty laundry there that hasn't been made public while he was "just another candidate".

There was also an interesting interview on a local radio station here. There was a recently retired USAF he was either a 2 or 3 star General with numerous command, diplomatic and combat experience and he was talking about how he knows from experience that Ron Paul's foreign policy ideas would DOOM us.

Just to play devils advocate, if we removed EVERY us base on foreign soil(like Ron Paul wants) and we only got involved in wars if we are attacked, what happens if we are attacked? It is a logistical nightmere and we can not respond in a rapid amount of time if we dont have boots on the ground ready to go or boots on the ground to help traport more in or help them on stopovers to their destinations. We will also be paying more to move EVERYTHING and everyone back there to respond to the problem then to maintain our forces not to mention countries like Iran will push us more and give groups like Al Qaeda a propaganda victory because they will claim they drove us from their land like they did the Soviets.

Oh yeah, not to mention if Ron Paul tried to close all the bases worldwide he would have to have a little talk with Congress and the Senate and get them to support it which they wont, Republican's and Democrat's would probably kick him out of their offices for even asking laugh

Oh yeah, and Karl Rove was on a show today(I don't care if you like or hate the guy he is one of the best campaign strategists in history) and he said Ron Paul and his people think they maybe cute or clever running all these personal attacks and personal attack ad's but it will be nothing to the ones that Obama and his campaign machine will unleash on him and make him look more pathetic then he is now. I will give Obama and his people credit, they are very good at below the belt politics in campaigns and Paul will get his $hit handed to him.

Not to mention Obama even without his beloved teleprompter will cream him in a debate, at least Obama doesn't stutter.

I hate to admit this, but if forced, I'd take Santorum over Romney...If elected, Rick might be dumb enough to seek and obey council......
