Who will be going to the book store tonight at midnight to but the final copy of Harry Potter?

I seriously thought about taking my son tonight but I just called the bookstore with a question and there's already about 300 people in line. I wouldn't get out with my copy until tomorrow anyway, so I'll just wait until morning. But, they are going to have some cool stuff, fortune telling, potion making, costume contest, etc. I don't know, I guess I'll see how much energy I have later.

I read the spoilers online though... so I told them if they annoy me anymore today I'll tell them what happens.

I read the first 2...and had no desire to read any futher into the series. They're "neat" books...rather trite, but nonetheless "neat."

I mean...don't get me wrong...I see the magic...I see how the characters are easy to like or dislike...etc...etc...But seriously...she sold out. JKRowlings saw the $$$'s at the end of the tunnel and sold out.

I think I would have much rather seen Harry just stay out of the mainstream norm...no movies, lunchboxes, action figures...etc...

The point was to get kids to read, which it has...but why read what you can watch on the big screen? Or wear on a shirt? I mean seriously...what are we teaching kids? That the special effects of the mind pale in comparison to those produced with CGI? Blah.

Yes finger I get your point. Why bother reading a book anymore? Just get online watch a movie, or play your video game. Much has been lost!

What? I don't get the point Finger / Carebear. The movies aren't 1/2 as good as the books. Kids love toys and games based on their favorite movie / book characters. My son loves his Buzz Lightyear with a passion. There is nothing wrong with making movies or toys based on a book, it's her right. Selling out would be giving up your vision for money, but her vision hasn't changed. Each book gets darker and darker even though critics and religous groups complain.

And the books capture the imagination in a way that the movies can never hope to imitate. If you teach a kid an appreciation for the written language...like I had learned at a young age, he will easily recognize the value of the book over the movie...and he'll want to see and read both!!!!
