...I looked down and noticed the blood spreading on the ground below me. The blows from the crowbar and boots must have been fiercer than I had first thought. I watched the crimson puddle grow larger through eyes that were not my own. I had to keep moving. I did not want to end up unconscious on the side of the road. I slowly started moving again. I was nearing home, but it was home no more, and it was not my destination. Lisa's apartment was where I felt the need to be. We had not talked in years, but I knew she would not turn me away. She might not be happy to see me, but I would not be alone. Slowly, painfully, I continued to make my way down the darkening streets. I was slipping into blackness as I ascended the stairs to her flat, and the last thing I remembered of the night was falling into her arms as the darkness overtook me.
