Webmaster's Commentary: Iran has a strong case against the US merely by having the drone. I don't think bluffing to more than is really there is a good idea. From the manner in which the lower section of the drone is masked, what I speculate what happened is that the drone simply malfunctioned and belly-flopped, not unlike that B-2 crash where the onboard computer was fooled by a fouled pitot. The US is, after all, the nation that built an F-22 that asphyxiates its pilots and the F-35 which cannot fly in the rain or the electronics stop working. So a drone malfunction is hardly an extreme idea.
