15 foot Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake.
By Tom Biery

This is why you shouldn't go looking for the golf balls hit 'Out of Bounds' in Florida!!!

THIS IS NOT A PYTHON!

This is a 15 foot Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake -
the largest ever caught on record, in fact.

This snake was found Near the St. Augustine outlet,
in a new KB homes subdivision just south of Jacksonville FL.

A little research revealed the following:

One bite from a snake of this size would contain
enough venom to kill over 40 full grown men.

The head of this snake alone is larger than
the hand of a normal sized man.

A bite from those fangs would be comparable
to being stabbed by two curved, 1/4 inch diameter screwdrivers.

The knife being used to draw out the fangs for the
bottom picture has a blade around 6 inches long.

This snake is estimated to have weighed over
170 pounds. (How much do you weigh?)

Notice the girth of this snake as compared to the cop's leg
in the first picture (and he is not a small man).

A snake of this size could easily swallow a
2 year-old child (and dogs, pigs, etc).

A snake this size has an approximately 5 1/2 foot
accurate striking distance.
(The distance for an average size rattlesnake is about 2 feet)

This snake has probably been alive
since George Bush Sr. was President.

Now just ask yourself these questions:
What has this snake been feeding on and where are its offspring?

I would love to see that rattle.

I can't wait until the movie comes out.!!

Only they will make him 50 feel long and a man swallowing snake.

A cross between a python and a rattler.

They caught it alive. They would probably take it to the gator farm, I would expect.

My daughter begged me to take her to see Anaconda when she was 13. I did, and she had nightmare just from the one scene where the snake spits out Jon Voight and he winks still alive.

We will find out when the movie comes out!!!

Question: Did they kill this guy or are they keeping him as a live specimen?

They captured him alive. Florida won't kill him off, that much I know. He won't go loose either though (captivity). They will probably milk him I would assume.

Your link claims it was only a 7 footer.

The 7-footer was taken at a development near St. Augustine.

I hope they don't kill it, it's beautiful. There are plenty of zoos that would want a snake like that.

This is fake. A few things to take into consideration here #1 look how far back to cop and squad car are compared to how close the snake is being held to the camera.

#2 the close up shot of the head and fangs are also misleading, the knife used is no more than a 2" blade.

This photo was cause for a lot of discussion in one of my bio classes.

In reality this snake was probably at best 8-10'
