Topic: pet food question | |
---|---|
Before you guys reccomend me consulting a vet on this question, I already have. The vet is my boss and she told me to expericment with different foods and see what worked (while keeping her informed of my dog's progress and reactions to foods).
I have a 9 year old, 105 pound husky-lab mix. My dog is obviously overweight... I have been looking up different dog foods for weight management, and so far the one i seem to like most is the AvoDerm Natural weight control food. I'm thinking about going to pick some up after work tomorrow. I was just wondering if anyone has used it, and what their thoughts on it were.... Any input would be greatly appreciated! -Erin- |

I just called a friend. He has a 12 year old Sheppard he said he just switched to a dog food called blue buffalo. He said he is having grand results with this food for his dog.

yeah... the only difference i noticed is that she started begging hardcore and getting annoyed that she didnt get the food... but her weight remained the same...
i dont want to cut her food down anymore... she's getting the (reduced) vet-recommended amount... |

I would suggest double cheeseburgers and fries from McDonalds. Dogs love fries.......

I'd rather be thin and miserable than happy and fat.
Oh, wait... no I wouldn't, and neither would my dog. |

Try dogfoodadvisor.com It gives a star rating for tons of different brands, dry and wet. Science Diet doesn't actually rank very well. Due to grain issues and allergies with mine I was able to hunt down and find some quality food for my 3 without breaking the bank. You'll have to cut back and ignore the begging. I did with my old girl, and she's dropped about 10 lbs, looks far better, is way more active and frisky, and she's 12.

Do you walk your dog and does it get a chance to exercise? Dogs can get the same bad habits humans have.

THe food she is on isnt reccomended because it has a lower meat content then most foods on its level. And some are a bit up in the air because it uses avocados.... my dog loved it for a couple days when i mixed it in with her old food... so i bought a big bag and was going to start weening her off her old food, but now she wont eat it... trying to figure out if she will eat it somehow, or if i just wasted $60 on food... just want to get at least half way thru this bag i bought before moving on to a different brand... |
