Topic: Romans 5:8 | |

I've recently been asked to speak soon on the verse Romans 5:8. It reads like this, "God demonstrates His love for us in this way: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Now this verse means a lot to me especially with what's been going on lately. It's a reminder that no matter where you are in your life, whether it be in a perfect place with God or like me stuck in a rut, God loves you the same. I just want to know what this verse means to you. I'd appreciate it if you let me know by posting a response.

To me it means that no matter how much we try we will never truely understand grace. All we can do is enjoy it's benefits. Unconditional love

The word "sinners" (hamartōlos) is pivotal to my understanding of the verse.
1. devoted to sin, a sinner a) not free from sin b) pre-eminently sinful, especially wicked 1) all wicked men 2) specifically of men stained with certain definite vices or crimes a) tax collectors, heathen To me, this verse means that all men are devoted to sin. We worship sin the way God wants to be worshipped. And although we are lacking of any redeeming qualities, God saw fit to send His perfect Son to die on a cross, so that we may be saved. |

We are all sinners. Far be it for me to judge another and say their sins are greater than mine.

To me it demonstrates the perfection of God's love. As this verse demonstrates, at our lowest, when we were the least deserving, that is when God made the ultimate sacrifice purely for our benefit. It was a selfless act to elevate those that were not worthy.
This is truly what love is, as God showed us through His example. There can be no greater sacrifice than death; yet He did just that for the express purpose of teaching us what love is... Talk about commitment to a message |
