I don't know if everyone is familiar with the concept. You may remember long distance company slamming back when we were first given a choice of long distance companies in the US. The companies could change your long distance carrier on a whim. Since then, there is protection against that. You can require a signature. ISPs currently do not have such safeguards in the US. An unsavory Phillipine (sp)based ISP got a hold of me and has repeatedly slammed me between them and ATT. It is highly illegal but since it is automated hard to stop. I have taken it up with the BBB, the state utilities commission, and the FCC filing complaints. Everyone's hands are tied. However, I did find a loophole if you go fiber optic, it is not possible to commandeer that line so that is what I had to do in my case. The company in question is getting in huge trouble but meanwhile, I am had to stop them from victimizing me. Apparently this does happen a lot and the phone company higher ups are very frustrated. They are trying to put through new legislation to make it safer like the long distance carriers.
