Several earthquakes have struck near south Sumatra of the 5.0 and 5.1 magnitude range today- making a tense situation on the volcanically-dotted archipelago potentially even more volatile. The Anak Krakatau volcano is showing signs of increased seismic activity. Authorities fear the volcano is building towards an eruption that could dwarf the one which occurred in 2007.

Indonesia's Volcanology and Geological Disasters Mitigation Center reported the numbers of seismic tremors now registering from the volcano have exceeded 5,000 a day. There are also reports of a gaseous mist which has seeped from the volcano and have enshrouded it in a yellowish haze- something that has never been observed at the volcano before. Anak Krakatau was placed on orange (level 3) status alert on September 30, 2011.

for those who don't know what this means, Krakatau is the volcano that erupted in the 1883 that was the loudest noise ever heard on earth. and for 2 seasons there wasn't a summer on earth. it also killed over 36,000 people when it erupted.

that yellowish haze is probably a sulfur build-up,,yep, fixin to blow, and not only a climate changer in '83 but ash and dust ,etc., lingered for five years in the atmosphere, creating incredibly reddish skies for that long.. The one under Yellowstone makes Krakatau look like a giant fire-cracker, when that one goes off, it's over, entirely, completely, all-she-wrote, happy trails, k.y.a.g.b. .the instruction book say's it will end with fire the next time ,instead of flooding , but nobody seems to believe in that "hokus pokus" anymore, so trim your "bucket list"

Actually, they were worried enough about Yellowstone to recommend an evacuation not too long ago, but things settled down. The lake is now tilted and part of the park has been pushed up indicating significant rising of the magma chamber.

A lot of people are worried about the "hokus pokus" at yellowstone.

As to the the ring of fire ... as one part like Japan releases, the tectonic plates shift to load up another area. Every release of stress by movement adds stress to another area. The Atlantic Ocean has a spreading ridge down the center and the Pacific plate rides under adjacent plates. Movement has to occur somewhere.
