Are you sure you have a DVD drive? It may just be a CD drive...

I'm just glad you weren't talking about one of those spiral-bound things with 90 pages......... LOL....I was just tryin' to lighten things up for you with a joke. Glad you got it. I'm not up on all this newfangled computer technology. I'm still using one of those older PCs (with a dinosaur-sized monitor) that has 2 usable hard drives (C: and D:). I just got off dial-up and on DSL last year...... Believe me, I wish I could help. |

I'm just glad you weren't talking about one of those spiral-bound things with 90 pages......... My new emachine has a DVD drive too but it would not play movies until I downloaded some free DVD software. It seemed strange that the software was not bundled with the machine, but it wasn't. So you may need the dvd software. You can get free dvd software on the Internet. |

My guess is that it's a driver problem. Do any errors pop up or does it spin and not show anything?

She said movies on her second post, so I assume she tried more than one DVD. In that case, I doubt that all she tried were too dirty/scratched to work. |

Sorry, I just re-read what you posted and your problem is simple: Windows 7 Starter and Home Basic don't support DVD playback natively, you'll need to upgrade to at least Windows 7 Home Premium or install a DVD decoder like Jeanniebean did. This link will help :
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/windows-media-player/dvd-codecs Hope that clears that up for you. |

Apparently those only work in XP and Vista. Seems like you need to upgrade your OS. You could try klite, though I'm not sure if they have a DVD decoder http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_mega.htm |
