My unofficial step daughter came home from Valdosta College and told me that gas went up .15 cents a gallon overnight a few days ago. Does anyone know why? Oil prices have been up and down all week. On Tuesday benchmark oil finished at $75.67 a barrel. That's the lowest it's been since September, 2010. On Friday it was up 39 cents to end at $82.98 a barrel. http://www.tulsaworld.com/business/article.aspx?subjectid=49&articleid=20111007_501_0_NEWYOR84417 |

Hey Peccy - you do know there are also mid-week versus weekend fluctuations which can also be rather dramatic.
Many gas stations raise prices on Thursday as people fuel up for the weekend then gradually drop prices which hit a low around Tues midday or Wed morning before they get ratcheted back up again. So it turns out it is best to refuel on Tuesday generally speaking. Anyway with the weekly price cycle on top of underlying oil price volatility it is not surprising. Here is a graph of the daily fluctuations in gasoline future prices and you can definitely discern moves of that size on some of the most volatile times on this graph. http://futures.tradingcharts.com/chart/RB/B1?anticache=1318038047 |
