Woodburn police are trying to find the owners of a headstone that turned up at this month at a Goodwill store.

The marble marker is inscribed with the name James Riley Hammer. According to the headstone Hammer died Nov. 5, 1895 at 17 years old.

The 2-feet tall headstone was found in the Woodburn Goodwill store's parking lot Sept. 10. Since then, police have searched online and called cemeteries, but come up empty handed as to where the tombstone belongs.

Woodburn police Officer Peter Antoine found out Hammer had a twin brother, Issac Riley Hammer, who died in 1967 and is buried at Lone Oak Cemetery in Stayton. The 1900 census turned up details that the Hammer family lived in the Mt. Angel, Scott's Mills and Marquam area.

Still, detectives can't figure out where the headstone belongs.

Anyone with information is asked to call Woodburn Police Department at (503) 982-2345.
