I had just walked into a coffee shop close to where I used to work, and noticed a number of grim faced employees and customers gathered around a tv monitor. I looked up to see one of the planes smashing into one of the towers.
Seemed so surreal. Took me a moment to realize what I was witnessing. Almost thought I was watching a movie at first. |

8 months pregnant and feeding my 9 month old and running my business at which point I allowed my 10 employees to go for the day if they wished not knowing whether any of them may have families or friends in that area or not. I did have a friend whose was in the area of the pentagon that got hit. Thankfully he wasn't there that day.

When i arrived back in London a few days after the attack, i remember being quite emotional going past The City on a train and seeing Canary Wharf and The HSBC Tower still standing there together, much like the Twin Towers used to look. It was great to be home, i didnt know for sure what i might be going home to when i first realised what was happening.

It was very early on the west coast. Got up to have my coffee and watch the morning news before driving my kids to school. Shock and disbelief were my feelings as the realization that this was an attack slowly set in over the next hour. Then fear. Halfway to work and school I turned the car around and decided we should all stay home that day in case the attacks spread to the west coast.

I was a Junior in high school. I was in 10th grand English class. We were taking a test on Beowulf. The principal came to the door and called the teacher out of the room. I remember thinking how unusual that was, you don't leave students alone during a test. The teacher returned shortly, and didn't say anything. We finished our tests, and I started for the lunch room (I had the earliest possible lunch period that year). My boyfriend at the time caught up with me in the hall, like he usually did. Instead of saying hi, or asking how my test went, the first thing he said to me was "The towers have fallen." I had no idea what he was talking about. The enormity of the situation didn't hit me until I saw the lunch room. Every tv cart in the school had been brought to the room, they were all turned to the news broadcast. They played the footage over and over again. My school district didn't send us home early. They probably should have, I certainly don't remember doing anything else for the rest of the day.

I was on my School Bus when word came over the radio. There was NO way for me to call my brother in Manhattan to see if he was alright until I finished the run. I had a terrible pit in the middle of my stomach. I didn't actually understand the enormity of it all until I got home...watching the tv and trying every 10 minutes to try and get through to him on the phone. I called off sick for the remainder of the day and watched in horror all the news broadcasts, flipping from one channel to the other. My family had a round of calling NY also and finally, later in the day, my sister got through. He was ok. He also, didn't go to work in the Towers that day.
