Topic: The rich giving to the rest | |
---|---|
In a spirit of solidarity the richest French have asked to pay extra in order to help out their country. The rich are voluntarily willing to pay out more in order to help.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-14646975 What are your thoughts on this; are they crazy? or should other rich from other countries follow their example? |

It's their money to do with as they please.
My question is will the "rest" actually receive any of the money or will the government do what they wish with the money? Then are they really giving to the rest? I don't think our government would use the "extra" money wisely. They would just use it to spend more instead of using it for something needed. |

They would just use it to spend more instead of using it for something needed. I just don't see a problem with this. The Government would have the resources to do the people's business, just like is in the Constitution, and the people would have the opportunity to vote on how best the money should be spent. The idea is that a small percentage of disgruntled and unhappy people would not have the ability to sabotage this kind of democracy. The plea from these noble french people is not unlike what Warren Buffet has been saying in recent times. (Google brings up lots of references to his recent op-ed in the NY Times). The call by these french people is a direct result of Buffet's plea. |

Stupid idea. They should donate the money to charity. Now the money mostly going to be wasted by stupid, inefficient government agents (typical of European welfare states like France).

I have no problem with people wanting to give if they choose to. If Warren Buffet wants to wright the government a check let him (I haven't heard him do that yet). I take an example here in Milwaukee. The mayor wants to build a street car line. Says it will be built with federal funds. What they fail to tell is the infrastructure already in place that will cost millions to move, and subsidizing the cost of running the street cars because there won't be suffient use of it to to be cost effective. So in my opinion that is a waste of money that the government spends. Our streets in Milwaukee are horrible. Now if they would use the fed money to fix them it would be a different story. |

The problem here is that the money needs to be allocated before it can be received by our government. Our government does not have the where with all to just be handed a billion dollars for instance and it not have a place to go. Congressional action is required. It is a testament to the humanity of humans that there are those who having excess and are willing to share it. Unlike our republicans here, greed does not reign supreme as they try to tell us all it should and that is what is bringing us down. |

I have no doubt that such a windfall would go toward deficit reduction, which would be devastating to the Tea Party.

I think the rich should pay much more in taxes since we are defending the sea lanes that keep free trade alive, wageing wars to secure the oil fields for the rich.
A case could be made that just about every branch of government is for the benefit of the uber rich. The judiciary, legislative and military are entirely in place for their exclusive benefit. What do they call the rest of us now feeders or consumers or breeders? |
