I have all these virus warnings and I'm not sure why or how I got these on here. I'm scanning for errors now but also there's some Security Toolbar 7.1 with a 4/10 security level and I can't get rid of it. Any suggestions?

yeah, avg free is pretty awesome.

I use it on my windows partition because I don't feel like spending money on anything windows related.

Housecall is the best free anti-virus, hands down. AVG is okay, but Housecall is better than most anti-virus that you have to pay for.

Spybot works well for me. However,if anyone has something they think is better, I'm open to suggestions.

I don't own a virus so I wouldn't know how to deal with one.
All I know is that viruses are bad. They're evil. They are the real threat to the world. Al Quaida has nothing on them.

They're like the cyber mafia. We must destroy them at all costs.

Hoo AHHHH!!!!

housecall is hit and miss with me...it has a tendency to shut down my browser at the end, right before the clean-up process. i then have to start all over...

be careful not to have multiple anti virus programs ,,they will get angry and confused and shut you down !!lol..so make sure you dont have to many anti virus programs installed , it dont work to throw on extra ,,pick one and go with it ,,uninstall the others!
AVG is the most highly recomended from what I have herd.

Be careful expecting a "free" avi tool to find "everything" (unless using open source and even then....)

Remember the adage "You get what you pay for".

Besides AVG, there's AntiVir. Occasionally use one of the online (and free) scanners. When it comes to defending your perimeter, more is always a good thing with PC Security. "Active" defense is necessary (e.g. AntiVir Guard). These are decent avi programs if you cannot afford to purchase a program and subscription.

Also, there are websites out there that will attempt to install a virus, trojan, worm, rootkit, etc. when you simply connect to the site.

So, run no less than 2 anti-virus programs, a spybot and adbot "cleaner" program on at least an occasional basis (I run them daily while sleeping).

And don't forget to use a firewall (the older home router NAT firewalls are usually insufficient).

Keep your Operating System (and other SW) up-to-date applying Service Packs, patches, etc. (Yes, for the pro geeks, I know testing patches is SOP).

There are a myriad of freeware, shareware and online scanners you can avail yourself of for protection.

Finally, here's a short list of a few security related websites (for both the geek and non-ITer's)

http://www.cerias.purdue.edu/tools_and_resources/hotlist/ (Some of the leading security experts in academia are here)

http://www.gfi.com/whitepapers/why-one-virus-engine-is-not-enough.pdf (PDF file on why you should use more than one AVI program)

http://www.itsecurity.com/ (TECS: The Encyclopedia of Computer Security)

http://www.istl.org/02-fall/internet.html (Science and Technology Resources on the Internet) VERY COMPREHENSIVE LIST...scroll down for AntiVirus info

Could go "on and on and on" but won't here.....

Hope this helps.
