Ive got a thing for Irish people. My band, back then, used to play at Irish Pubs, and I really got to know Irish people well. They are the most generous, kind, loving, funny, and bad tempered people in the world! laugh laugh

I have a story to tell. We went to play at Club 42, an Irish Pub in San Francisco(not sure if its still there), and as we were unloading our gear onto the stage, I noticed there was chicken wire in front of the stage. I didnt really say anything, although I thought it strange.

We're hitting our second set, and everyones drunk as hell on Guiness Beer, and Irish Whiskey, and dancing at the bar,(they wont stray so far away from the bar, to go to the dance floorlaugh laugh)All of the sudden all hell breaks loose! Three, maybe 4 men, and a couple of women, are BRAWLING on the dance floor! Beers are flyin, bottles are flying, Guiness Beer pint glasses are flyin, and people are flyin!laugh laugh At that moment I realize why the chicken wire is in front of the stage.

The band immediately stops playing, and suddenly the club owner appears onstage, and hes yelling, in a thick Irish accent,"What the hell are ya's doin", I reply, "Sir, someone is gonna get killed out there!". He looks me straight in the eye and says,"My lass, if your band quits playin everytime theres a fight in here tonite, you wont be playin at tall".laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

Oh, I almost forgot, they all quite fighting and immediatly starting hugging each other, and dancing, like nothing had happened!laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

True story!bigsmile

I love having a bar! Now I can tell all of my crazy stories! laugh

Very cool tale. If you didn't know what the chicken wire was for then you obviously never watched "RoadHouse" with Patrick Swazye when the Jeff Healey band played.

I visited the birth place of my grand mother in Ireland. I told a few people that I was here to find some of the people that knew my grandfather. In no time at all. The Pub was filled with people that knew my grandfather. For three months I meant more people than I have in many years. In the pubs in Ireland they do not fight in the pubs. I visited most of the grand oldest pubs in Ireland. I can say that a drink in Ireland can last the whole day.

We have three pubs here in the Springs. They all know each other. The food is remarkable indeed. The people that go there are just wonderful. I have not seen any fights brewing there.

I think it must be only in some places. True enough Irish do help others, and are indeed kind.

Bless the Irish, and all that like St, Patrick's Day.

I think it must be only in some places. True enough Irish do help others, and are indeed kind.

They would go absolutely crazy when we played,"Thin Lizzy" songs, like "The Boys are Back in Town",(for those who dont know they are an Irish rock band from the 80's, who had a African American, and Irish, lead singer, named Phil Lynott...RIP), and of course we had to learn a song that they jig to.

These wonderful people, would not let us stay in motel rooms, Ohhhhhhhhh noooooooo, they would put the whole band up in their homes. So we were like family immediately.Thats what Irish people do, within 10 minutes of talking with them, if they like you, your family!

They also REFUSED to let us pay for meals or go out to eat! We sat down and had dinner with them, the whole time we were there. And they also REFUSED to let us pay for any of our drinks. We grew to like Guiness Beer very much, so much so, that I can remember being so toasted by the third set,(because they would never let our pint glasses get empty) that I could barely remember the words to songs, THAT I HAD WRITTEN!laugh laugh

And as if that wasent enough, they also paid us handsomely. We got a flat fee + part of the bar ring(which in there, you can imagine, was huge)+ part of the cover charge at the door. So not only was it wonderful, we made good money there!bigsmile

What more could a band ask for?flowerforyou
