Look up the cost of the war. Higher ones say something around 3 trillion maybe over 10 years. That doesn't take into account that soldiers would still be paid even if not in the war etc. I have seen as low as 1.2 when taking stuff like that into consideration

Maybe putting a price tag on the steaming bag of **** we’ve been sold as a nation will help people wake up and realize how much this war is affecting the world. If over 1 million dead Iraqis and 4,000 dead Americans isn’t enough for you – not to mention the destabilization of an entire region – perhaps what Americans really need to come to grips with the reality of this situation is to see how that money could have solved all of their complaints. Snowed under by hospital bills? We could have a whole new system in place by now! Nervously living in a region where a natural disaster could easily wipe out your entire community? You could have levees, shelters and emergency backup plans galore!

Did you multiply all that by 10 years to equal how long we have been in this war? It was only averaging about 300 billion a year.

We have 307 million people in the US. You want me to believe an average of $1000/person would cover medical costs?
To put this in perspective Canada has 33 milion people and in 2009 Spent about 180 billion. US has 10 times more people so logical to think 10 times more costs or close to 1.8 trillion for 1 year. Thats more than 50% of what we spent over the war in 10 years.

And do the math. Like I said it would cost almost 2 trillion for 1 year of healthcare. Also you fail to discuss the other 11 million. Like I said the war isn't why we are In debt.

Despite your idiotic opinion, $300B is A LOT OF MONEY. I don't particularly care how "little it is in comparison to X" and neither should anyone else, its still wasted money. Its like telling your SO:

"Yeah, we could get a new house that's desperately needed for our family, but this T3 connection isn't what's making us bankrupt ... it's ONLY $500/month. Its the FOOD that we're buying and the heating bill in the winter and the paying for school supplies and clothing for the children that's REALLY draining our bank account".

When you compare it to the deficit I am saying. What about the only 11 trillion dollars? Compared to the entire budget that is not such a large bill. I am not saying its insignificant but its not enough that if we didn't have it we wouldn't be in debt. That is my argument. Take away the war and we would still be 11 trillion in debt.

My point also of just 300 billion being way less than what we would pay to cover everyone for universal healthcare as Canada pays nearly 200 billion a year to cover 1/10th of our population.

So, we might as well keep paying it then? The bigger point is that no matter what's more expensive, its still ADDING to the debt and there's much better things to spend it on ... even universal healthcare for 1 year is better for THIS country. Things that are helpful to citizens (like everyone argued for the case of tax cuts) aren't a waste of money.

But hey, if you're still a big fan of the war effort, I guess that's better than sending EVERY kid in the U.S. to college for the next ten years, instead eh? We don't want people making educated decisions so this never happens again, do we?
