For the most part, here in PA, you can't buy alcohol in regular stores (like grocery or convenience stores). Other than bars obviously (and some restaurants), you have to go to a beer distributor for beer and you can only buy wine and hard liquor at state controlled liquor stores. Just until recently anyway. There's a SMALL handful of grocery stores and convenience stores selling beer now (even though I haven't seen one yet).
There are a few grocery stores here in Eastern PA that sell beer and wine coolers but it has to be a separate sale at a designated register and the area has to be sectioned off from the rest of the grocery store. So if you are buying groceries and beer you have to make 2 separate purchases.

How are the prices? Comparable to a bar, or to a beer distributor?

Prices are comparable to a beer distributor, maybe slightly higher. There are also cafe style sitting areas so you can buy a sandwich and a cold beer and have lunch at a grocery store!

laugh laugh laugh Don't rule that out! Walmarts have groceries now so it will only be a matter of time before they sell beer. You will be able to buy a beer and a sandwich grab a couple camp chairs and head to electronics to watch the football game on the big screen!

so you were at safeway when he left with the bottle of booze?

Ummmm, he tried to leave. Not many people get past me........bigsmile

One of the companies I work for is Safeway. I am in plain clothes, my badge, cuffs and all that stuff is hidden. I walk around pushing a shopping cart looking like a customer watching people all day. I have to see every part of the theft or I cant stop them and we cant use the cameras much either, we have to physically see it.

Ummmmmm if i knew the laws in your state i wouldn't have asked

no booze on the shelves in grocery stores here, wine and beer, coolers..that sort of thing is all

Maybe they figure that there's already soooooo many bars and other places to get alcohol in Pittsburgh that we don't need anymore? Or maybe they think there just so many fat people that they figure they could stand to walk another hundred yards to get some? noway

Here in Oregon, you can buy wine in the grocery stores. What is that, 12% Anything else, you have to go to an OLCC store. I like the system. the grocery store part is a convenience, but I like knowing what I'm going to pay at the OLCC stores, wherever I am. The prices seem very good

I always wondered why people who were visiting from Oregon would always come to the stores I work for and load up on liquor.
