VANCOUVER, Wash. -- A 36-year-old Vancouver woman has been arrested after investigators said she tried to sell her infant son at a Taco Bell. The Clark County Sheriff's Office said Heidi Knowles -- also known as Heidi Gasaway -- approached a woman who was eating at a Taco Bell restaurant on Thursday, handed the woman her her 3-day-old son, and offered to sell the boy for $500. The woman called 911, and investigators later found Knowles and her son at Kay's Motel on NE Highway 99. She was arrested for outstanding warrants and booked into the Clark Co. Jail, where she is being held without the possibility of bail. Knowles could face charges of attempted child selling/child buying. She is slated to be in court on Monday morning. The boy was placed into protective custody pending the investigation. |

My goodness gracious. I should have liked to have seen the mother's face when nobody offered her above twenty bucks. "twelve bucks and ninety-five cents, lady, plus tax, that's my final offer." I wonder why the hapless mother did not smash the kid agains the floor as people do in movies with ancient Inka rosetta stones, and cry out "I am not greedy, but seventeen-ninety nine? It's my own child, my own flesh and blood, I'm cutting me own throat, thirty-eight ninety nine, not a penny less."
I think she was confused, the mother, because in TV crime shows the kids fetch tens of thousands of dollarls and british sterling pounds. Even before they get hatched, they fetch. "Johnny, be a good boy, fetch me ten grand" and Johnny, the faithful, good child, goes out and sells himself into adoption to a rich family and gives the money to his poor, starving, alcoholic, cruel parents. |
