Topic: Evil Dead remake confirmed | |
---|---|
Hell, they turned Angel into a latina with fairy wings. Actually, there's a newer character in the comics named "Pixie" (though I think she might've died ... not sure) whose real name is Angel Salvadore. So its merely another displaced character. I agree. I tire of the rewrites. There's decades of good stories in comics that they can choose from, but they always amalgamate because of popular characters of the moment. Its ridiculous. |

I just saw the midnight showing of Captain America with my buddy Paul. When I dropped him off afterward, he ran into the house so he could give me a birthday present a couple weeks early...
When he came out, he handed me an Evil Dead photo signed by Bruce Campbell. I had forgotten that he went to see Bruce about a month ago. Sure, autographed photos are a dime-a-dozen, but I think this has to be one of the coolest gifts I've ever gotten. |

Speaking of Bruce, he has confirmed he will be doing a cameo in The Evil Dead remake.
Too be honest that's the only thing that makes the remake interesting for me. After hearing that Cody Diablo is rewriting the script my curiosity factor has dropped....wasn't much of a fan of Juno, and I thought Jennifer's Body was awful. |

There can be only one....Ash, that is.
Quite honestly, that character is perhaps the biggest legacy Bruce Campbell has. It was his humor, sarcasm, and satire from those movies which his whole career has been founded upon, and which led many of us to watch his movies. To remake the movies with someone else playing Ash only serves to undermine Bruce Campbell's work rather than praise it. Then again, what do you expect? Batman is getting rebooted because of a lawsuit over the Superman films, and Marvel Comics is already doing a remake of Spiderman for next summer. Something things are just better left alone or undone. |

I agree, Ash worked because Bruce knows how to make fun of himself, not many people can pull off being a coward, and arrogant at the same time AND still be likable- Bruce could. They've also rebooted Planet Of The Apes again(at least it looks better than Tim Burton's version)...still though, another wasted opportunity to do a closer adaptation of the original novel Monkey Planet...the original '68 film had to make many changes because of technology limits and budget constraints...the new films don't have that excuse. |

True. I saw a bunch of previews last night. "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" looks better than the original, and because of that, it may be worthy of a remake given new technology. If the entire franchise can be redone correcting the flaws of the originals, then it is a worthwhile endeavor.
For the most part though, the previews left something to be desired. Captain America was okay, but not great. The movie spent too much time focusing on Cap before becoming a WWII hero. Then when it came time to build the legend, it was too condensed to have the adequate impact. It was a case of poor production and editing, but Marvel has been in a rush to get movies out before "The Avengers" is released next summer. So far, it looks like it involves Black Widow, Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Captain America, and Nick Fury - I didn't see Hulk in the trailer at all. Plus there is the opening for a Howling Commandos movie if they wish to do so. As far as other trailers, "The Three Musketeers" looks like a steampunk version of the tale. D'Artagnan looks to be more capable and less bumbling. Lady D'Wynter looks much nastier as an assassin, though the trailer gave the impression she might be teaming up with the Musketeers....so I'm not sure what that's all about. It could have been that I got her confused with Constance. Overall, the movie looked underwhelmingly flashy. To me, the Michael York/Richard Chamberlain/Oliver Reed version will always be the best one. There is a new Mission: Impossible movie. I had enough of that franchise after the second installment. "The Adventures of TinTin" trailer focused on special effects and setting rather than plot or characters. That is often a bad sign. "Contagion" is yet another attempt at making a blockbuster out of pandemic disaster related to the bird flu. We've seen too many of these over the past ten years, and this one is packed with star power. Translation: they are betting the ranch on the cast to carry a story already told way too much. There was one more...."Abduction" I think it was. That movie looked interesting, though it is an action/thriller. We've seen the basic plot in other movies before, and this one has a feel like the Bourne movies. I'm betting the movie may be somewhat flawed in plot originality, but the action, tone, directing, etc. appear to make up for it. Hence it could be entertaining despite any flaws. Edit: In "Captain America", Tommy Lee Jones and Hugo Weaving steal the show. Jones is Colonel Post, and his dry humor gives plenty of timely laughs. Weaving gives perhaps the best acting performance I have seen from him to date. I liked him in the Matrix and as Elrond, but this time Weaving uses more body language and vocal intonation. He seemed to enjoy playing The Red Skull, which may explain the improvement. His German accent isn't the best, very slight, but the important thing was that he nailed the Skull's personality. |

If the entire franchise can be redone correcting the flaws of the originals, then it is a worthwhile endeavor. I love the original franchise, the original Planet Of The Apes is a classic, the only film that isn't strong is the final one- Battle For The Planet Of The Apes. Escape From The Planet Of The Apes is my favorite of the sequels, and one of my favorite films, period. Conquest is also a lot of fun. Like I said, I think Rise looks better than Tim Burton's, but not the original, not even close. I do like that they are starting the franchise with the origin though. And I will go into it with an open mind. |
