How many of you have had an online romance or two or three… well you get the picture.

Also, how long was the longest one?

I've had three.

The first one I ended up marrying and we were together for 10 years.

The second one was with my brother's best friend in school. We reconnected after 30 years. It lasted 6 months; he was very controlling.

The third was with an old neighbor I knew from Sweden. It lasted five months because I found out he lied about being single. grumble explode

In reallife-- started online really (ONE)-- lasted about 4 months. then the dark details of his personality and past came out. So.......

Strictly online longest is three months until he asked me for "help" with a money issue (SCAMMER ALERT) so- that one ot he curb.

Starting a new one I met here, lives close by (well close enough- 1.5 hr drive) Hoping to keep this one around for a while. We click great together.
Got a few "friends" that have kinda been strictly a confidante/ best buddy situation and I had a few of those for almost a year.

But then again before that year I was married. So thats my story.

Personally, I do not believe in "online romance". To me, I believe "online romance" is just a start to get to know each other. It is a nice way to break the ice. To get to know each other in order to see if you may click enough to meet up.

Now, a strictly online romance, that is just... well... crazy. You have no idea what you are getting yourself into. Not only that, but what/who you are opening yourself up to? Is it really worth it?

So, to answer your question, I would never put myself into that type of situation. Best way to avoid such is to just chat, look, and have others view your profile from within your own location. This is the internet! As far as anyone could know... I may be a 6'6" black man who owns an island in West Africa. Really, it is not worth it.

Please take my opinion with a grain of salt. I am sure MANY other's have had great stories to tell within their own experiences. It's just these days, you can never be too careful when it comes to the internet.

Good luck with everything!

i actually would prefer to meet them in person
for online dating cant really go any where

and you dont really know that person honesty
and besides that i would actually prefer to see him face to face
and get to know who and what he is about

nothing is wrong talking to them
but if there going to be controling over the phone
then you know he would be as well in person

I agree with this. Meeting online should just be another way to meet people (not the only way, either). For anything real to actually happen, I would think you'd need to meet in person.

Life is funny, you never really know what's waiting for you around the bin.

I've had one online romance that lasted for a year, he is one of my best friends today (5 years later). He was able to reach me in ways noone else has so far.it turned out to be more than I ever thought it could be.

Alas I had to end it due to some issues on my end.

But the lesson here for me was, be open to new things, think outside of the box, you never know what wonders await!drinker

I guess I don't really get "online relationships." For me, it's fine getting to know someone online, but for there to be anything more, it has to be in person as well.

Yeah I understand and even though I've had it, I still don't "get it". All I know is that it happened, I enjoyed it, and I"m glad he's in my life. cheers!

But is it really a relationship if it's just online? Other than a friendship, I mean.

Everyone does not fix into the same box, so what might be the ideal relationship for one just doesn’t work for another.

Ex: not all women want to get married.

2. If two people are able to truly connect then there is a foundation, and yes a relationship can blossom ... How it ends up though is anyone’s guess, of course the same can be said having an “in-person” relationship. Either way there are just no guarantees hence the divorce rate.

Before agreeing to go into a relationship with someone u meet online,i think it's important to meet with the person face to face.
He/She may not be the angel they appear to be online.
U may even find 'em irritating just on the 1st day!

This is so true!

I have met a couple on another site that I was really interested in, but when it came time to meet...they certainly weren't who they professed to be and their pictures weren't even close to the real deal.laugh

Now the people I have met here on Mingle...I'd say 90% were the real deal and even better than they seem online:thumbsup:

Dude...you have been here two weeks....

If you ordered socks in the mail, you would still wait for them for another two weeks at least. Lovers don't just jump out of the computer just cause you are online....it takes actual work and effort to make it work. That is what kills it for most people.
