Okay, I was watching youtube and clicked on a link; all of a sudden I get all of these alerts from my Windows security alerts that I have 29 individual spyware, malware etc. infecting my computer.

What do I do?

I have Windows XP and coincidentally, my trial McAffey expired a few days ago.

go to the windows downloads page, and they have about 15 free trails of virus programs that will help... delete the mcaffey before you install a new one first...

if you have other spyware, virus killers you can use, restart
your computer, as the screen starts to come back up, immediately
start tapping f8 until a screen comes up with options on it.
you'll have to arrow down to secured mode. then you can run
your virus killer without the new ones you have interferring.

This is usually the case. I have come across it several times. The first two times I ran my own scan, and everything was fine. After that, I just closed the pop-up and ignored it.

Now I have an ad blocker, a pop-up blocker, and a redirect blocker in my browser, so I no longer get that fake security alert.

Most likely the case. It also could be a trojan horse, if you click on it then it will actually put a virus or malware on your PC. A good rule is to NEVER click on any pop ups. Or you could just buy a Mac.

Believe me, I wish I could buy a Mac. I've been stuck with this stinking windows PC ever since I came back to the States because it cost very little. I HATE WINDOWS!!!

i've been pretty happy with windows 7, but it still has it's flaws too...like older equipment just won't work with it...(my smartphone and my printer, for example)

I find Windows 7 to be an improvement over previous versions. I had several problems with Windows ME, a few minor ones with Windows XP, and my buddy absolutely hated Vista. So far I have had zero problems with Windows 7, and I have gotten it to run older programs that wouldn't work on previous versions of Windows.

When ME and XP had problems, it was usually because of a software conflict (Norton Utilities and Anti-Virus was a big culprit), or because a virus had slipped past my AV program.

Now I use Avira, which is free and kept updated, and nothing ever seems to get past it. Of course, I also use Firefox rather than Internet Explorer which may be a big factor too.

Download Avast! free edition and Spybot Search and Destroy. Make sure you have no other antivirus before installing Avast!. Keep Windows, your browser, and security programs updated.

If you don't like Avast!, AVG free edition is another option, but has been known to slow down your system, they may have fixed that though.

Also, there's ClamAV for Windows, but last time I had that, you had to keep it updated manually.

Kaspersky is also good.

I suggest that you switch to using FireFox for your browsing needs. I use the add-ons "NoScript" and "FlashBlock", so that I don't have to worry about pop-ups ect.
