Obama Laughs About Miserable Job Numbers
'Shovel-ready Was Not As ... Uh .. Shovel-ready As We Expected'

It's very reassuring to see the president cracking jokes about his anemic economic record. Jobless Americans will surely be rolling in the aisles of unemployment offices nationwide, thankful in the knowledge we have such a steady hand in the White House.

President Obama's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness met today in Durham, NC at Cree Inc., a company that manufactures energy-efficient LED lighting. One of the Council's recommendations to President Obama was to streamline the federal permit process for construction and infrastructure projects. It was explained to Obama that the permitting process can delay projects for "months to years ... and in many cases even cause projects to be abandoned ... I'm sure that when you implemented the Recovery Act your staff briefed you on many of these challenges." At this point, Obama smiled and interjected, "Shovel-ready was not as ... uh .. shovel-ready as we expected." The Council, led by GE's Jeffrey Immelt, erupted in laughter.

What would the liberal underwear (masc.) sniffers say?
Taken out of context, subjective, he needs 4 more to prove Conservatives right, he didn't say that.

I wonder if he will be making jokes like this after he is out of a job after the 2012 election?

This is one of those joke threads, right? This is exactly the kind of thing we would expect from a Newt Gingrich newsletter. In fact, if you Google the remark, you find pages of Conservative blog articles describing the event in practically identical language. Obviously, everybody got the memo.

I detected no levity in the remark whatsoever. what I heard was the President honestly admitting that he made a miscalulation with his stimulus plans. Nonetheless, it is no surprise that Jeffery Immelt's group would mock and ridicule him. That's what Conservatives do.

What I think the President might have said is that he had expected that all Governors would have put the stimulus money to good use, finding projects that needed to be done and hiring people to do those jobs. Our Governor here in Oregon was certainly able to do that.. States with responsible Governors seem to have been able to accomplish this with no apparent problems with regulation or the permitting process. Several Conservative Governors, however, just couldn't seem to get the job done. Minnisota and Florida come to mind.
