it doesnt matter what religion you are or what you want to believe in

we will all end up on only two sides at the end.the choice is always

yours so chose wisely.

That's your opinion, unless you definitively prove it true, it will remain just that.

End up on two sides of what?

What is it that you believe has only two sides?

God is supposed to be infinite. If God had only two sides he'd be really shallow and two-dimensional.

A being with only "this side" and "that side". laugh

That would be a truly limited God.

Just go to a manifold one dimension larger than God's then you
will be able to see both sides!

Reading on a Facebook thread some comments by people who have changed religions (mostly from Christianity to other) from the way they were raised and they were discussing how their families were very condemning and basically told them they were going to Hell, and were taking their children (the grandkids) with them. Some were talking about the total cut-off from family depending on how religious the individuals were.

I have a hard time when gays and lesbians talk about being ostracized, but seeing this with religion also makes one think.

Would you tell your child or other family members they were going to Hell for not believing?

I wouldn't, only because I've reached the conclusion that I have absolutely no way of knowing one way or the other.

I've accepted the idea that I am never going to know the "truth" -- insofar as religion is concerned -- until I'm dead, and very likely not even then.

why would i tell them a fantasy? i suppose if i wanted somebody to believe as i do or else i'd have to make up such a fantasy and from what i've seen of how easy the faithful are indoctrinated i'd guess it just might work. but i didn't raise my kids by manipulating them. tried to set an example on how to live a good and caring life and causing as little harm as possible along the way without religion and to decide for themselves the paths they'd follow.

I have been on both ends of this, in a manner of speaking. Both persecuted for "deviating" from the standard, man-made, doctrinal and traditional, cookie-cutter denominational beliefs and having children or friends who do not believe as I do.

Those who follow the Bible are even warned in many places NOT to make judgments ... and when the haters face G-d, he will NOT be pleased. The biggest problem I have with "fellow" Christians today is that the don't read or study their Bibles (where all of this is SUPPOSED to be coming from) and they just sit on their butts and let one preacher or another or a denomination tell them "what is". Then they go out and condemn others, "preach" the "word" and make the rest of us look like idiots and fanatics.

I would never EVER tell my child or someone who was a Christian but left their religion that they are going to Hell ... it is NOT my place to make that judgment. Only G-d knows what is in our hearts, only he knows when we are going to die.

I have more friends that are atheists, gay, lesbian, transgender, Muslim, Catholic, Jewish, etc. than I do "Christians" ... and there's a reason for it.

Ignorance kills us all.

Amen to that sis. I have a lot of Christian friends but they are nothing like the mainstream LOL. "The fear God terrorist" I call them. The last thing I want to do is be afraid of God. Some Christians have it so twisted they couldn't drag me into their revival meetings.

Oh, got a story for you.

Not to long ago I heard that some pretty uptight folks were coming over to do the heavy on me. So I found out when they were coming and showed up at the door wearing a long white robe. I kept a straight face through the whole visit. When they were done I asked them if they wanted for me to drive them down to lake mead so they could baptize me again. Poor folks, bless their heart, I really laid it on thick. I repented of everything they could think of and more. They had know idea what to do when I insisted to come along and spend the day with them. Finally when they were in their cars I couldn't take it any more cause my neighbors who know me were watching me. My neighbors, I and one of their gang cracked up pretty bad but I think the others were quite offended. I'm so bad.

Any God who would send people to hell for not believing that he's a jerk would only prove that he is.

So I guess the only way to get out of going to hell is to believe that God is a jerk.

This doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but obviously it works for a whole lot of other people.

I guess it must be easy for a lot of people to believe that God can be that mean.

That's all I can figure.

But then why they claim that he's all-benevolent is beyond me. I guess they figure that this same God will be pissed at them if they don't support that rumor too.

It's got to be fear-based.

Why would anyone want to have FAITH in such a cruel picture of a God.

It has to be fear. Evidently they themselves believe that this God will be mean to them if they refuse to believe this stuff.

That's all it can be.

Someone convinced them that if they refuse to believe they will be sent to hell. So they BELIEVE in order to be SAVED from that horrible fate.

And yet, I'm happy with no fear.
