One man who has ever loved me unconditionally, this is what I am sure of, is my father. Papa, as I fondly call him is the best father in the whole world for me. He has always been my protector, my idea of a great man, my loving father who was always there to guide me and remind me of all the things that I should be reminded of. For me, he is the best father who knows God as his Heavenly Father, making Him his partner in raising us, his children.

When I was a kid, both of my parents had their work to be able to support our living. We were often left to the care of our nannies. I remember that several incidents of negligence by our nannies prompted Papa to make a very humble decision of leaving his employment. I know this was not a willing choice for him but my loving Momma didn’t have an option to leave her employment for an alternative source of income. Papa then decided to buy a motorcycle and turned it into a tricycle, making this his partner in earning a living. It was not very easy for him but he painstakingly made sure he was able to support the family with Momma’s help, by driving around the neighborhood and earning with his tricycle. Papa then became a father and a part-time mother to me and my younger brother. Since Momma needed to go to work daily - with the house cleaned and everything we needed prepared, it was Papa who would bathe us, get us ready for and send us to local school. It was him who would always be there in school during our recess time to make sure we only get something which he made sure was clean and safe for our recess food. He’d fetch us from school and bring us back home. He’d go home in between his trips around the neighborhood in time to feed us and put us into nap after school. He’d be back every two hours to make sure we kids were safe and comfortable. During that time, it was a question for me why Papa was always around when my classmates had their mothers most of the time. It was also the reason why he knew almost all of my teachers and classmates.
High school came for me and my younger brother, the youngest was still in his elementary days but Papa and Momma thought the two of us can take care of the youngest and we could be left alone for a longer period of time then. It was then when Papa decided to go back to his employment. Tell you what, he sought employment in one of the industrial companies just very near our place, of course to make sure we kids were not left alone for a very long period of time . The work was a very heavy sort for his age then but he didn’t mind having it for as long as he’d always be near us and can go home anytime when the need arises.

Came my college days, I got a job of my own and supported my own studies. Papa somehow felt not needed by me then, mind you, it has not even crossed my mind but I realized that’s what he felt. But he always made sure he’s still there to show his love and care, he’d always be ready with a glass of milk for me when I came home from school and work. He’d have a scowl on his face if I would sleep without taking the glass of milk he’d so lovingly prepared for me. He was one man who ever taught and advised me how to act and deal with guys who would attempt to take advantage of my femininity, reminding me to be a decent woman to be treated with respect by other people.

Nowadays, my Papa is in his early 70s and he is still the same father I look up into. He is still the same man who constantly gives me advise and reminds me of the things I needed to be reminded of. My father, always the greatest father for me in this world.

Happy Father’s Day to everyone who may not be as great as my father but the greatest father to their child/ren! :) Just as my Papa is to me :)
