Being a Texas history buff I thought I would start a little myths and truths thread on our great state of Texas. Perhaps it will spark a little interest and just maybe urge a little research to find the truths. Don't be disappointed when you find the tall tales we have been told all our lives are not so tall when we dig for the truth.
I'll start with one of the most colorful characters of Texas history; Judge Roy Bean, the hanging judge, law west of the Pecos. Though tagged with the title of the hanging judge in fact Judge Roy Bean only sentenced one or two men to hang which, were allowed to escape. The "Hang 'em first, try 'em later" legend of Roy Bean's court is simply not the truth. I encourage you to read the story of Roy Bean's life. Here is a starting point. http://www.desertusa.com/mag98/aug/papr/du_roybean.html If these fact from fiction post interest you, let me know and I will keep doing it. Please add your own post to this thread. Remember, keep it fact from fiction. I'll work on getting the links clickable. |

Hey did you feel any of the quake the other day mylife? Yup, just a little shake nothing much. Had worse. We were in a meeting when it happened. The owner paused for a second, "Was that an earthquake?" Then continued with the meeting... |

everything is bigger in Texas, hell look at me Well, since Alaska is over twice as big as Texas ... I guess that would apply to the people as well? We import Texans to fight off the invasion of the winged blood sucking beasts. They get a thrill of the hand to hand combat and go home telling war stories. We call them mosquitoes. |

We call them target practice for the real mosquitoes in Texas. |

Sam Houston once punched a hole in the side of a cow, just to see who was coming down the road! Little known Texas history fact.
