EUGENE, Ore. -- A man was arrested in Eugene Friday for using Craigslist ads to rob victims at gunpoint.
Venus "Vinnie" Chand, 29, was wanted in connection with a Virginia kidnapping that involved a used car posting on Craigslist, according to U.S. Deputy Marshal Cory Cunningham. Someone responded to the ad and Chand robbed the victim of $4,000 at gunpoint, and forced the victim to drive him to another location. Investigators found out Chand was probably headed to the Eugene area and requested task force assistance. The Oregon Fugitive Task Force joined the investigation and discovered Chand was likely responsible for a similar scam in Springfield, Oregon. The victim in that case was also robbed at gunpoint of $4,000. Chand was arrested by the OFTF and the Springfield Police Dept. after a foot chase outside a Corliss Lane apartment complex at about 6:30 p.m. Friday. Chand was jailed on robbery, felon in possession of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon charges, as well as a fugitive from justice warrant. |
