Actually, that was a statement made by Actionlynx, not Mightymoe.....

I also stated sort of, I am very torn between union and non union...i appreciate the voice, but not so much the fees....and people are required to belong to gangs i think its uncool. you dont have your independence with a union, obviously, but like i say sort of. . .

I just think it is ridiculous that fireman are left standing on the sideline with this woman watching her son commit suicide.

thnx, simone... but he right about one thing, i cannot stand unions, and completely disagree with what he is saying about them... maybe 1 in 10 union workers are worth what they are paid...

Most Coast Guard rescue teams use helicopters....and it's the quickest way to deploy.

It sounds to me like they are just making a bunch of excuses, which only hints that Mightymoe is right. They did this to prove a point.

And I agree with Mylifetoday because we have way too many rules and regulations. Everything is smoke and mirrors. Keep complicating, never simplify.

Too many people work in government for the wrong reasons. Some just want job security. Others want the benefits. Some have their eye on a position with more power and prestige. Not enough people work in government for the sake of being a civil servant anymore. Those who do wish to actually serve the people become frustrated and depressed by the system they find themselves in because trying to do what is right becomes an uphill battle without allies.

This is why unions no longer belong in government jobs. Because the government should have the right to chop the dead wood during a budget crisis. When the crisis passes, fresh blood should enter the ranks, not old blood, thereby refreshing the system. Unfortunately, it is the unions that prevent government from getting rid of those who are harmful to the system.

sort of, but I think Mighty Moe hit it right on the nose.
I disagree about the unions. Union workers are better trained and far more profesional than the transient working class.

Personaly I think Moe is useing failed republican austerity programs to bash the union workers he is enviouse of.

It reminds me of the New York snowstorm. The govenor laid off a third of the snow plow crews then blamed the unions when it snowed and the roads were bad when there was clearly no or little evidence to support the wild claim.

pay attention... i didn't say anything about unions...
sorry moe wrong quote

As most Ceo's in any industry or any manager or just about anyone can be accused of not being worth what they are paid.

What is a mans life worth to spend eight hours of it doing someone elses work? It must be worth it to many who pay union wages being many jobs are far too complex for a transient worker to preform and often take a lifetime of skill building.

I think far to many americans fail to understand that every job has value. Its no accident that working peoples wages have fallen while the top ten percent have increased dramaticly. Someone besides the worker is makeing a nice profit on their labor.

No-one ever gets paid what they are worth, and some get overpaid far more exceeding their skill or ability, thanks to all the discrimination laws that have been made into effect for equal rights and equal opportunities...

Anyhow fireman put out fires and are not typicly tasked with water rescue. Isnt that the job of a life guard? What do fireman show up wearing boots, heavey jackets helmets etc etc. Why would someone who isnt trained or prepared for water rescue attempt to save a man clearly intent on suicide. They were actualy smart. He would probably have dragged them down with him, especialy if they did not have cold weather diveing equipment.

the guy knew exactly what he was doing anyways. wasnt there a documentary called suicide bridge or something, and it was a bunch of documented suicides in san francisco over two years or something, how they all jump off the bridge.

Okay, clarification time...

Here in Connecticut, every time the State tries to make cutbacks, the unions fight it tooth and nail. Then their form of "concession" is that the laid off State workers must be brought back within a certain time frame.

Now, in Connecticut, a job with the state is one of the most highly sought forms of employment. Having talked personally with many State employees the two biggest reasons for this are government benefits and job stability. It is very difficult to fire a unionized worker in State government here. In fact, it is one of the reasons why budget cuts are rare.

In some government jobs, union rules actually prohibit co-workers from sharing workloads. There are also political party issues which inhibit this. This intentionally creates a backlog of work....all because of bureaucratic red tape. The whole system needs streamlining, but the unions are the biggest obstacle to doing so. If the unions would loosen up a bit, then maybe progress could be made.

There are always people that milk the clock and grab every bit of overtime offered. Those are the people that need to be replaced by more efficient staff. Because the union fights against it though, it costs the State more to fight each case than it does to just let the worker continue milking the clock. This is all at taxpayer expense.

Another mindset that needs breaking is "if we don't spend it, we won't get as much next year". Every time the State cries about its deficit, I read how State money is being given to build a boardwalk on the beach, or to a town so it can build bathrooms on the town green. The State already claimed to have a $1 billion deficit, but then starts handing out millions of dollars for non-vital projects. Whatever happened to a "rainy day" fund? Recessions typically happen every 10 years (this one has been longer than usual). That means governments should be able to plan ahead for it. Currently, Connecticut is one of the two most heavily taxed States. It also has one of the highest costs of living. How much of a burden are people expected to bear?

Something has to give in somewhere. If the unions are good for government, then they should take the high road by loosening up their own red tape. For instance, how about unions taking over control of pensions for government workers? Make them privately funded so it isn't a bill footed by the government. It would also protect those pensions from being raided or taken away by the government when it finds itself in debt.
