TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - U.S. District Judge Larry Burns has determined Jared L. Loughner is not mentally competent to stand trial.
Loughner, 22, is the suspect in the Tucson Jan. 8 shooting rampage that wounded U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, 12 others and killed six people, including 9-year-old Christina Taylor Green and a federal judge. Loughner appeared in court Wednesday for the hearing to determine whether he is mentally competent to stand trial. Loughner has pleaded not guilty to 49 federal charges stemming from the shooting at the meet-and-greet event on Tucson's northwest side. |
