Britain's eight-year presence in Iraq formally comes to an end today, when the remaining 170 troops depart, spelling the end to one of the most controversial military campaigns ever conducted in recent British history.

As a hard working law abiding american I am truly appalled and ashamed that my country still remains.

I wouldn't go as far as to say I'm appalled. I pretty much knew that we weren't going there to find WMD'S, establish democracy, or to restore security. I think it was about the US wanting a regime change and the twin tower fiasco fueled that.

Nor am I ashamed. I feel extremely sad for those soldiers that have lost their lives there, but every soldier over there is simply following orders. War is just that...war. I would never feel ashamed of my country. If you were ever in the military, you would understand this.

I was in the mlitary but came away without the brain wash.

I feel bad for the men fighting but also feel equaly bad for the Iraqis who have suffered and suffered over this war on lies.

I dont think it was so much about regime change as it was oil.

Dont you?

Certainly, I thought that was a given. The thing that gets me is that we went in and gas has done nothing but go up since then.
