Former Nevada Rep. Barbara Vucanovich is endorsing retired Navy Cmdr. Kirk Lippold for the open 2nd Congressional District seat.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Vucanovich says Lippold offers a "bold, conservative vision" for the district that encompasses all of northern Nevada.

A special election is scheduled Sept. 13 to fill the seat vacated when Dean Heller was appointed to the U.S. Senate.

Vucanovich, a Republican who served 14 years in Congress representing the district, will also serve as a campaign adviser to Lippold.

Other Republicans seeking the seat are state GOP chairman Mark Amodei; state Sen. Greg Brower; and tea party backed Sharron Angle.

Angle is a former assemblywoman who won the U.S. Senate nomination last year but lost to Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid.

I am sick of Sharron Angle. She is a professional campaigner and ALWAYS loses. She's lost 5 campaigns in a row, including the primaries for the very Congressional Seat shes trying for now. When she lost, she sued and LOST.

Vucanovich is a prised endorsement in this state. She was one of th emost popular lawmakers of her time and in Nevada history. I was lucky to work with her twice on campaigns, and shes got a TON of knowledge and a TON of resources.

I just hope when Angle gets spanked this time she goes away for good and takes the hint that she will NEVER get elected.

Nope, he was a Commander not Captain. I cant wait to meet him. This guy has dealt with Al Qaeda and been a part of the War on Terror and is a great candidate.

He commanded the USS Cole when it was attacked in Yemen in 2000.

In the times whe are facing right now, I think a lot Military experience should be a pre-req for ANYONE in Congress, Senate, Secretary of Defense, CIA Director, NSA Director, National Security Advisor, Vice-President or President.

I think I might get a job on his campaign, I haven't decided if I want to work full time in a paid capacity doing campaigns again. Last cycle burned me out.
