I suppose you could say, "Well, it's Texas. What would you expect"?
Texas is on fire, literally. At least two million acres of land are burning, and have been for weeks. Texas Republican governor, Rick Perry, who has a history of refusing help from the federal government, only to beg for it later, is doing exactly that again.

In 2009, Rick Perry refused stimulus money, on the grounds that he thought there were too many strings attached. He then turned around and asked for a loan to cover the very expenses that would have been paid for by…the stimulus money. Also in 2009, Governor Perry hinted that Texas would remove itself from the Union if necessary, also known as secession.

Fast forward to this last Wednesday. Unbeknownst to most, Texas has received 16 fire assistance grants that provide financial support for the specific purpose of fighting fires, and 6 more are on the way. Hence that “Fire Assistance Grant” title. The most recent of these grants was approved last Wednesday. Governor Perry has been blasting President Obama for not helping Texas. I guess those grants don’t count?

Parts of the Midwest and the South were hit with devastating tornadoes and storms earlier last week. 350 people have died. Billions of dollars in damage. President Obama declared those areas states of emergency, primarily because of the level of destruction and the loss of lives. Governor Perry ripped into President Obama because the president did not call for a state of emergency in Texas on April 16th, and claims the president is ignoring the Texas wildfires in favor of the tornado victims. Yes, Rick Perry wants the federal government he hates to pick and choose when natural disaster strikes. How Christian of him.

Here’s a crazy thought. If you have a history of refusing federal money, you talk about secession if you don’t get your way, and basically act like a three year old, odds are that’s how you will be treated. With the fire assistance grants already approved, and more on the way, Rick Perry should have enough FEDERAL money to deal with these fires on his own. The Air Force is flying over the fires, dropping chemicals to help douse the flames. Monday, 925 federal workers and 123 pieces of federal equipment were fighting blazes.

So, 22 fire assistance grants. Federal workers and equipment. The Air Force. How is the federal government “ignoring” the Texas wildfires?

All I can say about your generalization is that unless you've lived there you have no idea what you're talking about. I lived on the Texas/New Mexico border for 13 years and some of those people are the nicest most informed I know.

Texas is huge, you don't appreciate it's size until you drive through it. You can't judge the actions of a whole state by one dummy governor.

This follows on his official "Texans are to Pray for Rain" Easter weekend demand. I wonder why he isn't having Texans pray to God for funds to recover....

The man is a twit and a whiny-assed brat, and people keep re-electing him (not this family!).

It's probably not right, but that's what we tend to do up here in the north.

Perhaps you should realize that Texas has cultivated a horrible image among many in the north who have no idea what we're talking about. Texas is in love with its death penalty, especially for blacks. Texas seems to concict an awful lot of innocent people. Texas likes guns more than it likes people. Texas is the embodiment of the George W stupidity. Texas is no place to be caught if you are a liberal. Texas can't even talk right. I know it's a stereotype, but it really does exist. It is what it is. Perhaps it's wrong to stereotype, but we get to do that if we want. There's plenty of stereotyping going on on the Conservative side.

Why would I want to? I was in San Antonio in the service. Lovely city, but didn't help with the stereotype. don't really want to spend my tourist money in Texas.

Being a "tourist" and visiting a place hardly qualifies you to pass judgment on an entire state. Especially the size of Texas.

Everybody is qualified to pass judgment on anything. Unless, of course, we have thought-police in America.

no, everyone has a right to, but not qualified to... there is a big difference... you have a right to pretty much say whatever you want, however stupid it might be, but your hardly qualified to...

Then, perhaps none of us should make any judgments about anything that we don't have intimate knpwledge of. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about when you talk about liberals and I certainly have never been a Conservative.
