Topic: Deleting not Deactivating? | |
---|---|
I tried to delete my account, but I think I may be blind or something. I don't want to just deactivate my account, I would like to fully delete it from the server and cache.
Can someone tell me how I do this please. Thank in advance. Ray. |

You cannot delete, only deactivate..
This is your topic title... "delete or deactivate" If you look through our terms of service, you'll see, that we are bound, by law, in some states, to retain any information pertinent to any investigation by law enforcement. This is all encompassing, and applied in the interest of Mingle2. To clarify this a bit further, there is no difference in delete and deactivate, barring the fact, that deactivate allows you to return, should you wish to. Any site, which does not retain records, are liable for any crime committed by any member of that site,(against another member) and the host site may face extreme penalties for failure to provide information. I do hope you understand. Mark - Mingle2 administrator |

What I understand is my privacy online is continuing to decrease and that I'm automatically guilty until proven innocent... May be I should have ready over the terms and agreements before signing up!
I do however think this is a severe violation of my rights as a member of an online community. Basically, once your in, there's no leaving is what your telling me? Is there a way I can formally request my data be removed? May be start an investigation on my activity and delete it if nothings found? Last question, how far back do you cache files if I just delete all my info? I've already seen advertisements on other peoples social networking accounts that use pictures from these and various other sites for advertising purposes. I'm not too keen on having my face represent Viagra without my knowledge or consent.. Especially if I'm not getting paid. Lol |

Ray, i'm assuming that is your name? Every site keeps records of sign up information, basically.. And yes, you should always read the terms of use/service, before joining. I will add to that, though, that every site has something similar in their TOS..
This argument has been presented many times, and i want to take the time, and explain this as best i know how. "why is deactivate better than delete?" If you join a site..(any site) and post a photo, or fill out a profile, and further down the road, you delete..well, you are only deleted from public view.. you are not totally deleted, so don't be fooled by that. Deactivating is actually better, because you always have the option to return.. or, say you deactivated in haste.. and your profile info is still there.. While the info can only be seen by you, or admin, it is still there. You can reactivate, remove your photos, remove your profile information, and deactivate after doing so, Profile info can be deleted, sign up info, cannot, and any site that tells you it is, are most likely lying to you. (or lieng..whichever) |
