If anything at all, the top tier employees of all companies involved with deep water horizon should be imprisoned for the manslaughter due to the 11 deaths that occurred and for crimes against the environment. This sickens me that they are getting away with what they have done and they are doing because of the money and their connections in DC. Obama had a chance to shine during this but he opted to play golf in Florida instead.

Despite causing an historic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico last year, BP plans to reduce its tax bill by almost $13 billion by writing off its losses.

The move is legal and above board. But with millions of Americans having just settled up with the IRS for 2010, it's causing consternation among activists who say BP shouldn't be offsetting its losses with federal money -- especially when Washington is in a budget crunch.

"The U.S. taxpayer shouldn't be ... footing the bill for this. That just seems insane to me," said Aaron Viles, deputy director of the Gulf Restoration Network.

i hear ya, but even if they did pay it, they would just raise oil prices to get it back... that's why gas is 4 dollars a gallon now, to get back all the money they already were fined and payed out... remember that 20 billion dollar relief fund?

not to worry, Obama has just created a task force to get to the bottom of the price gouging so gas should be $3 cheaper by June!

You seem to be shocked to learn that a business would write off a business expense on it's taxes. Isn't it Conservatives that are constantly reminding us that a business is not a charity? That it is in business to make money? Doesn't everybody know that? What did you expect that BP would be doing?

They are recouping all of their losses over the oil spill so far.

That isn't right and they are being stingy with their pay outs to those who suffered on the gulf. I think they may have only paid out 2 billion to date.

Does that matter if they are recouping it all back as a loss on their taxes?

get your facts straight... only about 4 billion has been used, and the rest is being held till 2013...

i really wouldn't care if they would lower the gas prices... but obama had this planned when he made them put the 20 billion up in the first place... they never argued one bit, and jumped at the chance to give him 20 billion... another evil lib plot...
