Michael Gerson hates what President Obama is doing, but I found this article fascinating. Gerson's analysis tells us that Obama's strategy has the GOP between a rock and a hard place.

the thing that bugs me the most in that article: "In spite of this, Obama now has Republicans cornered in budget negotiations. By accepting $33 billion in cuts for the remainder of 2011, Obama has taken the middle ground and exploited a major division within the Republican coalition. The administration has transformed a weak record into a strong political position.

i'm all for whatever cuts they wanna make, and don't really care which side they choose from... but the line that i highlighted kind of upsets me, for the fact i don't care about political gain, i want issues resolved. if he's doing this to help the people, then great...but sounds more like political jostling than anything else.
enough already, do somethings to help the people and the nation, quit all the bickering between the parties...

That's why we have political parties in this country. I am a Democrat because it most closely aligns with my opinions and has a chance to win elections. You want to belong to the Can't-we-all-get-along-as-long-as-we-all-do-it-my-way-or-the-highway Party. The Republican Party comes closest to that philosophy.

well, we are all certainly entitled to our opinions, even when they are wrong. you don't think getting along is a good thing? the way you just said that, the republicans could never have a good idea or system... so if everyone thought like you do, it seems we would have a civil war. is that what you want? i really don't think it's my way or the highway, sorry you believe that, but that really doesn't matter. what matters are the people of the US, not the government or what me or you think. What is the beginning line of the declaration of Independence say?... winning elections is not the goal, the goal is for everyone to live a happy life....
