Im about 6 weeks pregnant and just want to get everything in order, but i had a question for the mommies out there?

-Would breastfeeding or bottle be better?

-Was it hard to get the baby to breastfeed? i know my sister's baby had trouble getting started

-Any tips on the best way to breast feed?

Breast is always best. It has things in it that formula doesn't. Things that will help babys immune system.
Breastfeeding is sometimes hard. But you just have to keep trying and never give up.
Good luck.

I breast fed both of my children............you need to feel comfortable, and then the baby will relax, and feed easier.

You can also pump, and prepare bottles so that if your out in public, and uncomfortable with nursing your baby you can use a bottle then.

As with the child birth classes, take the classes that are offered. To me it just sounded ridiculous - why would I need classes in something that natural. My daughter proved real quickly why. We just couldn't get in sync with each other, so she was bottle fed. My son was breast fed. Steph was always the hostess with the mostess whereas Anth was more of a Kling-on when it came to mom/kid separation.

Quick word about pumping - that hurt and I ended up (forgive the verbage, but you'll definitely get the drift) treating myself more like a cow. It worked better, quicker, and way more productive and less frustrating.

i nursed all four of mine, the last for an extended period.

take advantage of the training...nursing should be comfortable and easy, not painful, but if the babe is on the nipple incorrectly, or doesn't have the entire nipple in their mouth, it's extremely painful...and will take your skin off.

while formulas have improved, they are nowhere near breast milk, which actually changes composition as your baby ages. it boosts immunity, and has been shown to boost IQ, as well.

my daughter had a hard time getting her son to nurse, in the beginning. the hospital provided no support, so i went in, grasped her breast and helped her learn how to position the nipple. after her blisters healed, she was fine.

it's WONDERFUL, by the way...hormones are released while you nurse, making you feel relaxed and happy. oxytocin is released, helping your uterus to squeeze back into position and your body to go back to normal. there's no getting up in the middle of the night to mix and warm a bottle...no cleaning bottles...no sterilization...none of that. SO much easier.

good luck.

By the way, if you are going to nurse and use bottles every now and then, do the bottle thing as soon as possible. Had a heck of a time finding a nipple on a bottle my son would actually accept.

A great source of information and help for breast feeding

I breast fed my son for 3 months, I then had to go to work so it became difficult to continue.

OH, and if you are going to use a pump occasionally (like for going back to work), then splurge on an expensive one...MUCH more output, much faster, and no pain. i could fill two eight ounce bottles in less than twenty minutes.

just want to add that when my ex and i were still together. she always said we needed to get the pump, the same one in the hospital, because nothing works as good... (i got to turn on the switch...)

Libby-As said, breast is best.

I am the least crunchy granola person you will ever meet. However, I loved nursing my son. It takes some time getting used to, but was so great once we got the hang of it.

They are always clean, perfect temperature, and with you!

Email me if you want to talk. I am far from an expert, but I did it for 7 months. My son weaned himself.

Hugs, M
