There is an entire industry centered around this. Rosetta Stone claims to have the key to learning languages easily. I don't know if it's an honest claim. I don't think it's simple, especially for an adult.

I think I remember how I learned as a child, but I can't say that the same principles would hold true today? Do you have a good visual memory? Do you like to read? Do you like language and the subtleties of it? Do you appreciate people who are clear and precise with their language? These are the things were important for me. On the other hand, I had a terrible time learning German in high school.
