So, I'm here for friends, and It's been hard as heck to find any otherkin from Cali on here (though I did meet one)..

If your otherkin, therian, etc, I'd like to get to know you! Messaging is fine. It's difficult to find kin, and I'm probably too open about my own therianthropy, but I'd rather put myself out there and meet new people.

Hope to talk to more otherkin soon!

Greetings from the draconian sector of this site!

BTW, there is nothing wrong with being open minded to alternative beliefs. Frankly there are a lot of legends and stories out there of animals who act like people and people who act like animals. Frankly I think humans forgot we ARE animals!

So party on!

ok, will you explain to this poor uninformed mingle-user, what is "otherkin" and "therian"?

I hate to sound completely ignorant, but sometimes you don't learn if you don't ask.

Look it up on Wikipedia. That's what I do when I run into something I haven't seen or heard of.

Haha sure, a lot of people don't know what exactly it is, or you hear a lot of misconceptions. Wikipedia isn't the best resource for this kind of thing, in my opinion.

Your going to run into a lot of definitions of therian, but basically what it is is somebody who believes that they (mentally, spiritually, etc.) a non-human animal. Some believe this is due to reincarnation, being born into another body, some people don't concern themselves with why and just accept it as a state of being.

Unfortunately due to stereotypes and Hollywood, people might associate it with a) furries or b) werewolves, both of which are completely inaccurate. Therianthropy (being a therian) is spiritual, not play pretend or dress up. Nor do they believe they can physically shapeshift lol.

With otherkin it's a similar concept, but a slightly broader definition. While therians are individuals with non-human animal souls (or traits), otherkin encompasses otherworldly beings as well (such as dragons, elves, faeries, etc).

For a lot of people this can sound crazy, I know. Then again, there isn't proof in any religion or spirituality. I know a decent amount of otherkin and therians in person, but I'm always wanting to find more haha.

I know the difference. Furries are some sick demented perverts! Therians may feel like an animal inside but they know the difference between real and fantasy. Now Plushies? YIKES! Who wants to screw a mascot?

Now associating Vampires and Werewolves to Therianism is BOGUS! There is a difference to having odd phantom limb sensations to fantasizing about being undead. Vampires are Hemophiliacs/Necrophiliacs! Werewolves are just people using excuses for going animal crazy. Likewise an Ann Ricer or a Twilight tween twip is not Goth and Emo certainly is not Goth either! Emo is Metro GAY and Goths are respectable. And if the face is white, piercings abound, and the dress is Machavelian? Vamp, not Goth, get it straight or get Goth served!!!

Likewise people make sick associations when animal and sex are said in the same sentence. Just becasue someone felt they were an animal in a human skin doesn't mean they have a compulsion to raid the barn yard. I feel like of all the species I had to be part of I had to be human! I would have had more fun as a sea gull! I could poop on cars! Oh well...

Oh, and by the way, Never EVER piss off a Kitsune! (A test of your folklore knowledge!)

I agree!

Oh.. I know not to piss them off, something a friend of mine learned the hard way. I don't ever plan to be the one to get on their bad side again haha!

My best friend is a tiger therian.. and while she's no kitsune, I've gotten her mad. Ain't fun lol!

I can safely say I don't feel human inside but I am a human. It is maddening to feel like you can do things you know are physically impossible for a human to do.

Hollywood is the enemy anyways. How can anyone glorify being a blood sucking parasite? Hell, you want a real live blood sucker, look no further than to nature. You thought Leeches were bad?

You think too small. Lets get up to four feet long weighing up to ten pounds.

Behold the Lamprey Eel

Some people think this fish by looking at the mouth are looking at an algae eater like the Plecostamous

But in an odd twist the mouth of the plecostamous is oriented like ours. It hinges from side to side in relation to the length of the fish's body.

The Lamprey however has a mouth that hinges down the length of the animal. I think it is the only vertebrate with a vertically aligned mouth.

And this is what they do!

Sucks to be the big fish!

Sound off if I grossed you out!
