Out of the 5 cases already brought before the courts regarding this issue, why are the Republicans choosing this one to be so loud about?

Someday I am going to write out all my thoughts for governmental reform. I've been discussing this with people for 20 years now, and whether they be liberal or conservative, often we come to the same middle ground about how government needs to change. How come Congress can't do this? How come the population can't seem to do this?

There are a lot of disenchanted people on both sides, and I am actually beginning to fear where our country is headed. I once thought 20 years ago that these issues would have come to a head by now. They haven't. That means the resentment has lain dormant, surfacing only once in a while, but now it seems to gain momentum. It worries me how explosive things may become within my own lifetime. Although there will be mingling of all factions when the people do stand up to the government, the real challenges will be in the aftermath when change really begins happening. The alliances made are going to be false and temporary. We are going to need a whole generation of new leaders in this country to see us through the necessary changes. Otherwise, I see arguments turning into something much nastier as tempers flare. The finger-pointing, the mud-slinging, and blaming are polarizing more and more people as they fail to question in-depth the information they are being fed. Some actually do question and research, but are unable to fully process and understand the information they gain. Instead, they develop views based on false understanding and ignorance. It is the people that scare me more than the government.

I began entering the political discussions here because many of the primary contributors here actual do have valid information and can discuss their points with intelligence. Granted, the first few threads I entered were plagued by finger-pointing and Us versus Them mentalities. Of late, this has changed, and the discussions are becoming more academic, better debated, even if we all don't agree. As a result, I enjoy discussing politics here much more than I do offline. I wish people in the real world could discuss these issues much more rationally, intelligently than they presently do. If they could, then we would make real change happen without problems that I foresee ahead.

For some reason, I felt the need to say that...

Have you seen Mitt Romney trying to back pedal?

I'm a moderate. I am conservative on some issues, and liberal on others. I admit that I don't like the Republican party in general....haven't for years. I do lean more Democratic, but I have fundamental disagreements with the agendas they push forward too. I am an American first, and I put the welfare of the country ahead of party politics. That's why I think this country really needs a strong third party to supplant one of the two traditional parties, much as the Whigs and the Republicans once did. Remember, the original parties were the Federalists and the Democrats....Republicans were once the liberal party, but then roles reversed. The Bull Moose Party and the Reform Party were the two that had the best shot at equalizing the political balance, but both were short lived. It's time for a new party that can endure, but in its formation change the way politics in Washington operate. Only a third party can do that as the Whigs and Republicans did over a century ago.
