Topic: 9-11 truth movement motivated Tuscon Shooter? | |

I think since this is found in the New York Times we should begin the discussion about how dangerous 9-11 truthers can be. I suggest we have a national discussion about how blatant lies and half assed conspiracy theories can lead to a mass shooting..
I think the truthers need to tone down their rhetoric and stop inciting lunatics to commit acts of violence. From the New York Times article: "But Jared, a curious teenager who at times could be intellectually intimidating, stood out because of his passionate opinions about government — and his obsession with dreams." "He became intrigued by antigovernment conspiracy theories, including that the Sept. 11 attacks were perpetrated by the government and that the country’s central banking system was enslaving its citizens. His anger would well up at the sight of President George W. Bush, or in discussing what he considered to be the nefarious designs of government." http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/16/us/16loughner.html?_r=2&adxnnl=1&pagewanted=3&adxnnlx=1295272816-mzPTbiXmgfYK5d56DmiDjg 9-11 conspiracy theorist.. Bush hater.. Federal reserve enslaving citizens.. Who does that remind me of? Hmmmm.. Let me think... Oh yeah.. I know who likes to post those kinds of things.. |

Conspiracy theories without foundation have always been dangerous.......but so is the political rheotoric.......its all dangerous to a degree and its affect on the unstable......but none of it is responsible for instability in society........ there is no singular cause for what this lunatic did, but when you look at the nonstop anti government rhetoric that comes from 9-11 truth one has to wonder whether or not this contributed to this nuts paranoia. |

It cannot contribute to paranoia......clinical paranoia must already be present.....unfortunately many balls were dropped by many people where this unfortuanate should have been evaluated a treated professionally......there are many types of paranoia and delusional behaviors.....ex. delusions of persecution......ex. delusions of granduer and so on.........paranoia must be present and can be brought on by PTSD or PTSS |

Obviously a child with PPD cannot possibly know to mistrust the government. They only know the people in their immediate surroundings. Therefore, as paranoia may be present, what they become paranoid about develops as they grow older. |

They would already be paranoid period.......the reason he acted they way he did in college was because he was paranoid......the reason he split from friends and family he was paranoid he did not trust those any longer that had always been trust worthy to him previously........he definitely would not trust those in governmental powers no matter what he read or did not read......now what he read would definitely contribute further to the paranoia already distributed by the individual....but no it did not cause the paranoia this person already displayed in his personality......this person would have acted out violently at some point against someone.....it could have been college campus local grocery store gas station library walmart or mall........but he chose this arena a political one and politics is surrounded by conspiracies........you can lay rheotoric as responsibilty or a contribution because this person was bound to act in violence for whatever reason sufficed for his already out of control untreated paranoia.....he would displace this on anyone and anything for any reason.........

Unfortunately, regardless of paranoia, derangement, or any mental disorder, people tend to look for a cause to give their life meaning, purpose, and a sense of self-worth. Too often people look outside of themselves when they should be looking within. Since such people are so hungry for something to latch onto, they rarely take time to thoroughly learn what they are attaching themselves to....and that means not getting their facts straight, jumping to conclusions, intolerance, etc. Think of how many groups we have known of where this has happened and led to some form of tragedy.
Even in groups with just and valid causes this sort of thing happens where young new members are fed lies, misconceptions, and false information as a form of indoctrination....it is like brainwashing just to create a young loyal base that might someday continue the cause into the next generation. I'm not going to claim that such people always do this purposely, but I have noticed it through people I have known. Furthermore, most of these young recruits either tire of the cause, or see through all the B.S. eventually and move on. Not everyone does though. Sooner or later, this leads to acts of violence or destruction, just like what happened in California with the E.L.F. Don't get me wrong though. I'm not saying that all such groups are bad or full of lunatics. I am just saying that this is more common in this country than most are truly aware of. When someone with a legitimate mental problem joins one of these groups without treatment, it can become a very dangerous situation. In fact, Josef Stalin was a man that actually fit the profile of just such an unstable person who joined a cause and became dangerous, perhaps more so than any person within living memory....including Hitler. Using Stalin as an example, it shows just how dangerous one person can become in the right circumstance. In the end, it doesn't matter whether the cause is liberal or conservative in nature. It happens on both sides, and that's why fingerpointing does no good in such a discussion. Religion and politics produce both liberal and conservative organizations. It will always be so. Most of importantly, they are also the ones that produces the strongest and deepest beliefs, so there will always be cycles throughout history where such groups will cause harm, either because of the one or the many. |

So you really didn't prove anything here. |
