If a terrorist blows up a log cabin in a forrest and CNN doesn't cover it, is it terror, or just a random act of violence? Striking fear in the masses is the definition of terrorism. If there are no mass of people at the cabin in the woods then it would not be terrorism. With media coverage or without media coverage you can not have terrorism without terrorizing the masses. You don't need the media to terrorize the masses. |

....and depends on who blew it up and why... If no one knows it happend then it doesn't seem to matter who or why. Somewhere, on the other side of the world, some nut is hurting a person from the west because he wants to cause me terror. He is failing because I don't have my TV on. Do you understand the meaning of terrorism? Terrorism isn't an act of violence it is about the fear you induce on people by your act. If you are doing violence in a random location with Noone around to witness it then it is not terrorism. Terrorism is about causing fear and it can be done without acts of violence. Though they make it easier. |

You don't need the media to terrorize the masses. Right. Terrorism is actually an act of warfare and all warring nations use it. It is not specific to one certain act, it is the method of war used. If you blew up something and called the authorities to say you did it because you don't like ice cream that is terrorism. The threat of future violence and harm is there even if noone got hurt this time. |

Without the media people would be unaware of what was happening... Wouldn't the terrorist just love that... They'd hate it. The terrorest go for the media hype. Terrorest don't kill in the dark. Terrorest don't hurt people in Junction City Kansas, they go for New York City, where the worlds media lives. OMG... Tell that to a mother in a village square somewhere in a country that see's acts of terror everyday... A mother that has lost her entire family to the acts of a religious extreme and a single bomb carrying madman. |
